I decided to see what all the fuss was about re: Rosetta stone. My impression so far is that it would be v difficult for a person who has no experience with the language to get some of the concepts they're teaching. I also think it's a little fast for a beginner and a little slow for someone with two years tennisJapanese experience. I know the emphasis is on speaking but more learning of the written language would be useful. Maybe that comes later? I have my doubts.
I do like that they're teaching everything in present progressive (she IS running vs she runs). But then, the class that I took at school started with command forms.
Level 1 is probably not going to do me much good but it's interesting enough that I'll plow through just to see. For my purposes, an additional reading/writing aspect would make it more enjoyable.
Note to self: pick a OP doujin to translate so the group doesn't think you're 100% flaking out.
