I've realized that this entry is indulgent in my own desire to believe people not only read, but care about what shows up in my journal, but secondarily I'm an infophile.
This year has really been a year of realization for me. Not that I've always made the best of what I've realized, but that's my own fault, and I've gotten to see the results of being a good player and choosing not to be. In talking to someone recently, I said something that I believe sums up my entire year. "When you're doing something that you really want to, but you're not sure if it is as good as it seems or not, try it. You're achieving something, certainty. Next time, you'll be certain if its worth it. Certainty is priceless." While clearly true on the mundane level, I'd like to hope its not more shallow than I think it is.
I think a paragraph can sum up the year. The spring semester the cafe was founded, I came to know some people really well, and came to be very close with a number of people, both new and old to my social network. The summer was awesome. In both cases, I learned a lot. As the fall semester went by, I learned a lot from my mistakes as well as other people's. The worst thing we can do for ourselves is give away our independence. The conclusion to the year was a poignant one: consider why you are doing something, not simply how to do it best. Too often do people lose the spirit of what they seek to do by diving in too far.
And as always, shout outs to the people who my year would not have been the same without.
Brandon: You take things in a very different way from other people, and I'd use the word refreshing to describe that (a word I avoid due to its potential overuse).
Ryan: We're good for one another, or so I hope. Because damn what we could accomplish if I'm wrong. :p I'm lucky to have a sidekick.
Melissa: Thank you for keeping the cafe in business. Also, thank you for just always being around.
Julia: Thank you for being Mr. Magoo. You've had timing beyond your understanding at all the tough times for me this semester.
Julie: The thing about successful people is that they run out of time in which to be successful. I think that's your main issue. You're always awesome to me, even if our time together has grown scarce, that can change. Buffalo Theory for life.
Carly! It's great to know someone who is always excited about life, enjoys the little things, and doesn't take things for granted.
Gloria: I've come to appreciate slowing down from you being around.
Veronica: Seriously, you affected my year dramatically and now I don't even know where you are.
Vince: You're making a lot of good choices for yourself. This is what success is made of.
There are a lot of people who aren't showing up, it's probably in part that I don't think you'll be reading this, and probably in part that there's grown a distance between us as the year has rounded out.
