It's been over three months since I last wrote here, yeesh! Despite still not working (it's driving me NUTS) I've been busy between Shryne, ZO2, interning at AS220, fife and drum, and hanging out with new people. Not to mention the back and forth between doctors. You'd think I'm 80 years old -_-;.
So here's the rundown I guess...
I spent New Year's with Kevin. We just stayed in, watched some movies and TV. It was relaxing and fun. All in all a great way to ring in 2010.
I spent most of January looking forward to (and going to) Sleep No More. It was the most amazing sensory experience I've ever had, theatrical or no. Picture 50 rooms inside a school made to look like the set of a Hitchcock film set in the 1920s. Now picture the characters of Macbeth, with a few Hitchcock characters thrown in, roaming about acting out the play while you follow, watch, and chase after. Only it's completely silent. Essentially, you are Scrooge on his journeys with the three spirits, a wanderer in someone else's dream. Trust me, it was AMAZING. After the first time, Kevin and I needed to go again. We tried unsuccessfully for standby tickets the next week (I jumped on a moving train that day; it was epic) and again the next weekend, this time making sure to get there 4 hours early. That resulted in what amounted to a tailgate party complete with hot cocoa, charades, Shakespeare trivia, and vodka from the Russian girl. As awesome as that was, Sleep No More blew me away even more the second time as I saw an entirely different set of scenes and rooms; it's that massive. I hope that they run the show again because I know that I still missed things!
I started fifeing at the end of the month and surprisingly I picked it up rather quickly. The changeover from clarinet to fife fingerings (which don't make a whole lot of sense) went well. But hell if I can learn the instrument, the songs, and memorize them in 2 months. That's a little much, lol. It's coming along though. I started paying off my London trip; as of right now I've put $500 towards the trip itself (just $100 more to go!). I still have to pay off my fife and get my passport though. There goes another ~$300. But it's well spent in my eyes. I would have paid much more for the chance to go to London, let alone be able to dress up and do parades again. XD
February was all about getting ready for Shryne's release party and it all paid off! The show was a total blast and a great success. Shryne's now in fairly constant rotation on Soundcheck on WHJY and Home Bru'd on WBRU; despite this they weren't chosen for WBRU's Rock Hunt again this year which I'm still pretty miffed about. C'est la vie. Things are looking great for expanding touring territory this summer too. I also had a fantastic night down in NYC seeing ZO2. Seeing Peter Shaw and Alex Skolnick play with them was way too good of an opportunity to pass up.
I've been spending more time in Boston lately which is always fun. It started with Sleep No More and continued this month with a fantastic play (Odets' Paradise Lost) and a really fun steampunk event at Club Oberon called Klokwerq. I'm looking forward to going to The Donkey Show there soon too. It's A Midsummer Night's Dream set in a disco put on by the same company who did both Paradise Lost and Sleep No More (American Repertory Theater [A.R.T.]). Therefore, it's going to be awesome. XD
My health has been fairly meh since last year and I'm rather sick of it. Today's adventure to the ER gave good results for all the normal stuff but the whole not being able to breathe normally business wasn't too pleasant. Thankfully it might only be a mild case of bronchitis and that's easily dealt with. Ah the joys of modern medicine.
I had a fantastic time at the ZO2 show in Cranston the other night though. The fanz are still waiting for my review so I should get to that rather than go into detail here. Hopefully it won't be another 3 months before I update, lol.
