This weekend was a last hurrah of sorts seeing as how I'm starting to work full time tomorrow, though I have no idea for how long past a few weeks. I spent most of the daylight hours yesterday traveling from home to New York City, though the bus ride was mercifully short this time. I met some of my friends, a band by the name of Hybrid Dawn, at their practice space near the Port Authority. Apparently this one building is home to the practice spaces of at least 30 bands. We hung out for a bit, loaded the van, and hopped in to drive out to Staten Island for the show.
Courtesy of all sorts of bad communication between the venue and the bands, everyone went on later than usual but the show was great nevertheless. It was a triple birthday celebration with what amounted to the entirety of my NYC social circle and a lot of my ZO2 street team buddies from neighboring states. The only downer was that the preview episode of "Z-Rock" that they were supposed to show didn't work on the cheap DVD player the venue got. I've already seen it but it would have been nice to see it again and see everyone's reactions. It was a night of rock, laughter, and shenanigans that was capped with the announcement that ZO2 is finally with a booking agency as opposed to booking themselves. Bigger shows are on the horizon so I'm pleased with that.
After making a pit stop on the way home to drop off one of the guys in Brooklyn, the rest of Hybrid Dawn and I made out way back to the space to unload. We said our goodbyes around 3:45am and I got myself back to the Port Authority with time to spare for the 4:45 bus home. I got back into Providence around 10:30 (thank you non-express route) only to realize that I had to go pick up my brother in New Hampshire this afternoon. I didn't have to drive, thankfully, but I had to be a human GPS anyhow. So yea, it was a long and relatively sleepless weekend to be followed by money earning days ahead. No complaints!
