Scene 6b Ken leaves one shadow for another

The world shifted around dizzily as Ken awoke. The slab he was on was cool and damp with condensation, and three guttering torches lent a weak lazy light to the darkness around him. With a groan, he sat up and began brushing the dust off his clothing and muttering horrible things into the darkness aimed at whoever had interrupted his rest.
A girl's chuckle came from the far end of the room, where a metal folding chair had been set up underneath one of the torches. Illuminated by the dim light, the slight figure of the girl didn't seem all that imposing at first glance. Her aura was as pale and muted as the rest of her appearance, all dark greys and black that seemed to draw in the darkness around her.. Ken focused his eyes on his guest and squinted trying to see her better through the bleariness of his recently ended vision.
"You... I know you, girl. What are you doing here and why am I awake? I still owe Sloth more time. Ugh, and I feel awful" Ken shook his head and winced at the sudden pain it caused. The girl stood and walked towards him, the slow graceful approach of a predator. She whispered "I am Luna Tempo, the Timer. Sloth says you're going on active duty for awhile and I agreed to help with your awakening."
She held out one of her hands, which until now had been casually held behind her back. The hilt of a dirk glittered brightly, reflecting the torchlight as if she held a handful of jewels instead of a killing weapon. "This is yours I believe, you might be needing it before too much longer." Ken raised an eyebrow and took the weapon, clipping it to his belt in a practiced manner that spoke of great familiarity with the weapon. "Luna... you went to the academy, didn't you? I remember seeing you in one of my history classes."
His eyes narrowed as he continued to look at her "What are YOU doing up? You shouldn't have graduated from those classes for another year at least." She grinned impishly at him and skipped a step backwards "Active duty, same as you. Sloth is putting together a team to take his place while he finishes paying his own debts. Besides, I'm a fast learner, I'd already taken those classes a couple of times, I just liked the teacher."
Ken slid off the slab, balancing gingerly on his toes as he put his muscles through a quick workout they vigorously protested against. He sighed and shifted his shoulders back, his spine popping like a string of firecrackers. " Well, whatever we're up to, we'd best get about it and get back in short order. I don't think my body is nearly as ready as it should be. I still look like a freaking teenager and have the muscles to match..." He shrugged and reached for a jacket that had been thoughtfully placed on a hook near his resting place. "What year is it, anyway?"
