A Long Path

[chaos kept his eyes closed for many minutes, even after he had finally become conscious again. He was quite aware this was the second time he'd died in a relatively short course of time, and third time in Mayfield; twice now, his death had been caused by some of the seeming Controlling Powers of Mayfield, and once by a trapped resident. Although he did not fear death, at least not in the way that any mortal would, the events had left him feeling uneasy, something he rarely felt.]

[Those souls he felt, and their screams as it seemed the Vat used them as energy to recover his blasts when he tried to get out... They had disappeared completely. Everyone was so happy when they blew up whatever it was on the outside, but it seemed none of them understood, or had felt what occurred inside. Wilhelm had disappeared before they got inside, as well, so the feeling was, to his knowledge, his alone.]

[With a small sigh as he shifted, chaos drew himself out of the bed, and began across the way to Wilhelm's room. The intention was to talk to the other man, because he would understand what chaos felt on level others couldn't, even if it was unlikely he would ever offer comfort. It just was not his way, and chaos was aware of this. Still, he needed to know someone else could understand exactly what he had felt then... And maybe even when he had been near the Milkman. Wilhelm might say something, like it was foolish, but knew he would understand chaos' feeling of pity.]

[Unfortunately, chaos was quite immediately aware that something was wrong when he entered the room. It wasn't that Wilhelm was gone, the man had a tendency to wander as much as chaos did, but simply the fact that a very important object was missing: The Compass of Chaos and Order. Wilhelm would not have removed it from the room, from it's usual spot. He knew chaos and Nall had enough since not to mess with it, after all. Yet, chaos felt for a moment denial, and began to look around the room as if he would find the Compass to be hidden. It turned up nothing of the Compass, and chaos knew that it meant Wilhelm had likely disappeared from this plane for the time being... or for good. But it had turned up something else, as well. Something chaos stood looking at quietly for several moments, his eyes reading the words on the many sheets of paper with eyes that were fully aware of their meaning.]

[Finally, he lifted these pages up and took them to his room. How far had Wilhelm gotten into writing down Lemegeton, the true words of God, he wondered? He would have to spend some time reading. And why had he written them down? chaos felt he may know. For now, though, they would have to wait. Settling them into a drawer, which still held some images from someone else who'd been in town before, and not worried evne if Nall found it - he doubted the small dragon could read Latin - he moved downstairs to the phone.]

[Phone - Filtered from the usuals]

[The voice which comes over the phone is certainly chaos', but for those who have heard him before, it has an edge to it today. That edge implies a sense of renewed meaning somehow.]

For those who were not at the Dairy, and even those who were not, I am giving a brief rundown of what occurred, so that we are all on the same page. If I am missing any details, please inform me.

After heading up to the Dairy, the group of us were stopped not only by Grady's men, but eventually we became unable to move due to the Milkman. He and the Postman fought, and the Postman perished in the battle. At that time, he returned to us our powers and items, and several of us went to gain them. By the time we returned, the Dairy was open but there was no sign of the Milkman. I imagine several groups went in, and although I cannot vouch for what they did, I do know the room I and the one who went with me found ourselves in bore the feeling of anguish and despair, and searching revealed a vat. This vat... [He pauses here] This vat was the source of that feeling.

I have a power which allows me to cross through inanimate objects, or to pass them through myself, and was able to get inside. Inside I was able to feel things much more keenly. Many of you obviously felt it, and realized within time that the vat contained souls; the souls of those who have come, and then disappeared from Mayfield. Our friends, enemies, family and friends, or those we list as permanently droned. Somehow, you guys were able to cause it so I could not only get out of that vat, but the souls themselves seemed to be freed. Or, the remaining ones.

[Now chaos' tone changes again. This time there is an edge of anger, as well as an edge of self-loathing]

I couldn't get out of the vat with my power, so I tried to use an attack. When I did, several souls began to scream and disappeared entirely. I cannot be certain, but as we had heard a strange noise sometime before, similar to what I heard inside, when the Milkman had brought out a laser against the Postman, it occurs to me that the souls of those no longer here, and possibly even our own for all we're aware, are being used not only to power pieces of this town, but to heal pieces as well. At least, it seems the case to me.

I don't mean to be the bearer of bad news by revealing all this to you, especially the souls disappearance, but I felt everyone should be aware of exactly what I felt and what occurred. I also tried to talk to the Milkman after his robot was defeated, sustaining his life long enough to try to do so, but he refused to answer any questions. He said that he had an expiration date, but I do not know if he had expected his death, or was merely trying to rile me up...

[There's a long pause here, where it may seem chaos has hung up, before his voice seems to return, much quieter, and much more tired than before]

Whoever is handling things to try to get out of here, if you need my powers, you have them. They are limited at present, but I will do everything I can to assist. I don't care what controls Mayfield, but the soul is not something anything has a right to use for it's own desires.

[Finally, he'll wait for any responses and then hang up]

[Actions]

[chaos has things to get done today after he gets off the phone, and after he probably locates his remaining housemate for a talk, so he'll be out.]

A. He's at the grocery store buying some food and other items, including Tuna Fish for Nall, though who knows why he's doing this exactly since the drone mother cooks

B. He's visiting several people he considers friends, or people he feels he needs to speak with. This includes: Crowe, Gilgamesh, Ciel, and Theta. You're free to catch him as he walks from home to home.

C. He's laid down on one of the park benches and is just watching the sky. It seems as if he's lost in thought, but his eyes turn whenever someone comes near, and he offers up a kind smile despite the obvious sadness that reflects in his eyes.

D. He'll also be spending time staring at the main buildings of town, such as the City Hall, the Smiths' home and other such things. Feel free to scold him.
