I've said this already, but now I'll say it in official comment--I love this story. I love the quiet tragety, I love the details, I love your description of the way the mind of a compulsive gambler works. Your real strength here is that Grady is a well-written, well-rounded character that you sympathize with, all the way to the end.
::sighs:: Even though his name is Wainwright and not Grady, You get my meaning. I don't know why I insist I call him Grady. What is that from? Why did that get stuck in my head?
