Kalhyn's chilling in his swing for a little bit - it's getting close to his AM naptime, so I have a few minutes.
Saturday, we went to Farmer's Market to look around and get out of the house. Kalhyn loved being able to smile and stare at people as they walked by while he was in the wrap (I chose Donau for the day, because of it's cool, even toned spring colors and the thin fabric). We picked out a few starter plants for our front yard garden I'm putting together - Sage, pumpkin, shallots and green onions for now. Eventually I plan on picking up rosemary, lavender and thyme (haha) since none of my little seeds made it. :(
I have a beautiful, healthy sweet pepper plant which was started from the innards of a store bell pepper, along with one more growing and another nearly ready to be planted, all of which will go outside as well. For now, they are happily hanging out on my windowsill.
Kalhyn's been making all sorts of developmental strides lately. He can now push himself across the floor, in circles, and has been trying to roll from his back to his tummy. He's able to lift his chest, trunk and hips off the ground now, and has been working on getting his little knees up. I'm sure he'll be crawling in no time.
Yesterday, he learned how to hold himself sitting up by grabbing onto objects around him (until the object fell over). When he started to fall, he put his hand out to catch himself! So his sense of balance is developing really well. He's determined to sit up and has been trying to do sit-ups when on his back or in his swing.
We've been putting toys just out of his reach to encourage him to reach for them and try to move towards them. So far, his favorite is the remote control, of all things. Not a toy remote, but THE remote. We don't let him play with it for very long, but he is absolutely fascinated by all the buttons. His other favorite toy has been a stuffed version of "missing link" from monsters vs. aliens.
So to all those crazy strangers who told me my son would never learn how to do things on his own if I carry him everywhere, bah! :)
The Hoppediz Havana wraps I got in trade for the Leos are beautiful. I debated keeping the green dyed one, since it was so long, but decided to keep it after all - going to chop it down to a 4.6 and use the remaining meter of fabric to make Kalhyn a blanket and a teething toy.
I know a couple of you on my list were wanting the Leos, but I have something even better (and cheaper) for you to check out at Junefaire. I will have natural and brown Walter's wraps!!! I managed to get in TWO of the neverfail (the wraps with the "seat" built in) in mini square weave, one very soft, natural colored double-brushed wrap without the seat, two soft, brown colored brushed wraps without the seat and one soft, brown colored brushed wrap with the seat. The Walter's Organic wraps run from $65-$75.
You can see photos and more information here:
http://sites.google.com/site/blackhillsbabywraps/wraps/waltersorganic In my opinion, these wraps are better than the Leos I had. Much softer, much cushier, they are like wrapping with soft, yet thin blankets.
I will also have the Storchenwiege striped wraps, but they are more expensive. I will also have three beautiful Bara Barn short wraps. Unfortunately my Girasols are still being held hostage, so they will not get here in time. *sigh*
Eventually I plan on carrying Hoppediz wraps instead of Storchenwiege. Hoppediz are more inexpensive, softer, and a little cushier. Here's a link to the different colorways I can get:
http://baby-sling-experts.com/ProductImages/HoppedizPatterns.JPG A typical 4.6 Hoppediz runs $95 vs. Storchenwiege at $119. Plus Hoppediz wraps have a pocket on one end for you to store stuff in!!!
Alrighty, off to get some dishes done (I swear, we use a ton of water around here lately... but at least the sun has been out, so we don't need to run the dryer as often!)
