Theme: Songs from the Year they are Born (SFTYTAB) aka The 80s + Allison.
-_- Allison. Must you ruin my wish of an 80s week? HAHA.
Judges' baby pics! KEWL-beans! Simon Cowell looks like John Lennon when he was a kid. HAHA.
Danny Gokey, “Stand by Me”, 1980.
"I can sing!" *cue angel music* "I CAN SING!"
Uh... cheating? LOL. "Stand By Me" was originally done 1961. The first part seemed to go on forever. The arrangement reminds me of "For Once In My Life" haha. Energy, yes. Is it just me or the only lyrics when the tempo picked up was "stand by me"?
Kris Allen, “All She Wants to Do is Dance”, 1985.
Kris is undeniably cute. Don't speak though. Grow some personality, man. Can you tell Adam I said 'hi'? ROCK ON, whoever you are! Kris, whenever you bring out your guitar, make sure WE HEAR IT. Three times you bring it out, three times it becomes a prop. Twice it was cute, this time... no. Uh, like Danny, the only lyric I understood was the title.
Hmm... Randy and Simon are agreeing with each other more and more this season.
Lil Rounds, “What’s Love Got to Do With It”, 1984.
Wow, her hair during the video montage looks great. She's pretty in the montage. In the performance... the girl doesn't know how to perform. The start was a bit flat. Man, the eyeshadow's lookin' fierce. The vocals are SLIGHTLY better this time around. But she's no performer. Paula and Simon are right, it's a copycat performance. YES SIMON! STOP PIMPING LIL. She's NOT worth it.
Judges, it's USELESS with Lil. She's not listening to you. And she'll be crying again to get votes. "I promise you that I'll take the leap," rewind the tape. Next!
Anoop Desai, “True Colors”, 1986.
True... colors... are right. Dude, you don't match, Anoop. I enjoy Anoop's recordings but his performances either make me cringe or go to sleep. The arrangement doesn't match the intensity of his performance. That falsetto in the end is LOVE. This is what Matt wants to do... and what Anoop himself wanted to do in the past weeks, make a very popular song his own. Consistency, dude, consistency. Stick with ze soul.
Scott MacIntyre, “The Search is Over", 1985.
(You know what, I'd seriously KILL if ADAM sings this song. The last two lines of the chorus is *swoooon* HAHA.)
Scott's a cute kid. OMG... is that MOM? Pretty! Guitar + Scott = awkward. At least your guitar's plugged in. O-U-C-H. Not good. The song was tooooooooooo big for Scott. When singing a power ballad, you NEED stage presence. Scott - piano = 0 stage presence. Scott's high notes are ALWAYS shrieky. That, or off-key.
Judges, Scott is NOT five years old. Tell him what's what just like everybody else. *grumbles* NO! Nothing was "okay".
Allison Iraheta, “I Can’t Make You Love Me”, 1992.
Same age as my brother. IAMOLD.
Hehe, even her eyebrows are dyed red. WAAAAH, favorite song alert! And oh, this is also in Adam Lambert's Upright Cabaret repertoire... yes, the one where he seemed to tear up in the end. Uh... consider this: if she's not 16 (say, uh... legal age), would she get as much praise as she gets? Shoot me now but with this performance, she showed me that she's one dimensional. The performance had uh... minimal emotion. Young, Kara? SRSLY. All her
Kara has officially swung her "My Favorite" spotlight to Allison Iraheta.
Matt Giraud, “Part Time Lover”, 1985.
HAHA, Matt's a cute theater kid! XDD
Nikko of Season 4 did this. YEAH Matt, no piano! He looks like Jason Mraz this time around. Wow, I'm liking it! This is the Matt that I like. Back in Hollywood, 'member? This is how he should do it, make songs his own with his RnB vibe. Lovin' it! Can't wait to download the studio recording.
Adam Lambert, “Mad World”, 1982.
My biggest score out of the song speculations! I didn't see this song choice in most of the blogs I've read. All of them either had "Open Arms" or "Tainted Love".
"Sports, not so much," said Eber Lambert. Aw... smishes baby!Adam. He looks like he's sitting on a ray of light haha. WHOA... wrong lyrics, bb. I've fangirled over this performance ten times over this morning when I first saw it off Rickey.org haha. This is closer to the Gary Jules version. The first time I heard that was in CSI. And loved it. And Adam, I LOVE THIS.
First time in the history of Idol that Simon Cowell gave a standing ovation on a performance that is NOT in the finals. Also, (I think) this is also the first time Randy gave a standing ovation this season. And... the first time when ALL FOUR judges gave stood to applaud a contestant.
The judges need to time their critiques. I mean, it's unfair to Matt and Adam, not much critique (on the air anyway) on their performances. IMHO, they had the best performances of the night. As much as I love the standing O, I'm interested to hear what the judges thought about it.
So... that's that for the last American Idol 8 performance night that I will watch in the Philippines.
