Yeah, yeah, I know I promised el pics, but Pbucket's being a little pain in the asscheek and my dad's "borrowed" my digital camera for his camping trip. So nyah.
Didn't do much, recently. A lot of work, writing, reading for next year, shopping. I've been forced to admit that I've got roughly two weeks before I get shipped back to my own personal hell for another year. So, I'm gonna do the mature, responsible thing and IGNORE IT until it goes away.
So, manga. Manga manga manga.
You people on the other side of the world and the Deprived Nations, you've gotta check this one out. Just a little thing called Death Note.
Only one of the best damn manga I've seen in a long time. It's so inhumanly clever that it makes you feel smarter just by reading it. The entire series is up on the internet somewhere scanned off Shounen Jump, and scanlations are around, too. Me, I've taken the way of the dialup-handicapped and actually bought the Chinese copies, books 1-7.
The plot is simple, but still refreshingly original. It's basically about a book called the Death Note that has the power to kill whoever's name is in it. Simple, no? Not-so-simple, when genius Light Yagami gets his hands on the Death Note and proceeds to take his own form of justice on the world.
But in Book 7 they did something that I truly cannot forgive. They killed one of my favorite characters of all time. I'm not gonna say it for the benefit of those who haven't read it and are as enthralled by this character as I am. (twitch) This is as bad as the death of the Blitz Gundam pilot Nicol Amalfi in Gundam SeeD. The death of this character hit me harder than Nicol, I'm sure. He just had so much of a presence...
Enough.
Oh, and I picked up the first book of a manga ages ago, back in my second year, preparing to leave once more for school. A little something called
MAR: Marchen Awakens Romance. It was so unbelievably good that I shelved it away carefully... and forgot all about it. Of course, I was forcibly reminded of this just a couple days ago when I saw MAR book #10 selling at a street stall in downtown Mongkok.
ARGH.
It's not original, it's not new or anything, but the characters are. They're so wonderfully human, and there's so much chemistry, romance, natural hilarity, and awesomeness going on between all of them. Of course, the guy's weapon (a metal kendama) is also one of the coolest weapons I've seen since the Masamune. It may lack grace, but it makes up for it with sheer fucking POWER. Cloud did it with the buster sword.
Must finish entry for Writer's Contest. WORK WORK WORK
Oh, and before I forget.
