So I just sent a draft of my MRP (Major Research Paper=slightly undersized Masters thesis) proposal off to my soon-to-be supervisor for review before I submit it to the department. Wow! It's seemed a little surreal to me all year that I'm really doing this - that I'm really doing my Masters, and that I might really get to do it on Phantom, but now it's really happening! Holy cow!
Anyway, yeah. I know I haven't posted in, like, ages. I kept meaning too! But I had a paper to finish from before the strike (thank the Gods for extensions), a reading list and schedule of truly daunting proportions (LOL in grad-school they actually make you work), and a computer crash to boot! My home system's been down for two weeks, and I'm going to have to have *everything* re-installed and the hard-drive replaced! Oh well, at least it'll give me an opportunity to upgrade the memory, and at least the university's helping to foot the bill! Thank the Goddess or I'd be screwed!
The other good news, though, is that I've had my first short article published and been accepted to my first academic conference! I submitted that piece I posted here on the myth of the meritocracy to the York University Free Press (a student-run, independant Leftist newsletter on campus), and they've accepted it! And I also submitted the paper I did last summer on the role that Light vs Dark cosmologies play in the perception and socialization of Blind people to the 5th annual Critical Disability Studies Conference, and they accepted it too! So I'll be giving it there in May, and they've suggested that I submit it to their journal as well! Wow!
Anyway, I'll definitely let everyone know how that all goes. But I'm so looking forward to doing my MRP!
