But I don't want to eat anything till breakfast time, because if I do I'll use up my food too fast and I've still got the whole rest of the month to get through, LOL, and about $60 to do it on. Hmmm. This is going to be interesting. And don't even ask why I'm up this late/early.
Anyway, just got back on Wednesday from a really awesome visit with a friend whom I've known since fifth grade at the residential school for the Blind. We don't get together in person more than about once or twice a year unfortunately, because we've never lived in the same city and she's always really busy. LOL she's a much higher energy person than I am. But when we do it's a lot of fun! We have our differences of opinion, but she's a really awesome person with really awesom tastes in books and music. Anyway, we listened to the entire seventh Harry Potter book, Wow that rocks!, listened to the movie of The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe on descriptive video, listened to a whole lot of other neat music ranging from Evanescence to opera, and ate chocolate. We also went to chapters (didn't buy anything though, bummer) from which we walked back to her apartment. God her guide-dog walks fast! Yikes! Her dog also seems to be scared of my cane or something, because I had to trail way behind them in order for her dog not to get all confused and keep stopping. Weird. Not that I could keep up with her anyway unless I was actually holding my friend's arm. I just can't walk that fast when I'm having to find my own way, especially in unfamiliar territory.
She also introduced me to a torrent program that's actually screen-reader compatible. Wow! I'd been using BitTornado for the longest time, or rather having it on my system but not using it because my accessible software couldn't make sense of it. But my friend introduced me to Utorrent, which works much better. And she introduced me and invited me to this site called, don't laugh, demonoid.com, from which you can download all kinds of fabulous stuff. She's found lots of awesome audio-books (it's where she got Deathly Hallows), Sarah Brightman's entire discography's worth of albums, and lots of cool music ranging from Christian to Evanescence to Mozart! And from another site, she sent me a whole bunch of descriptive videos, including the one we watched, all three Lord of the Rings movies (though unfortunately not extended), ant the first two Star Wars films!
I tried to pursuade her to watch Return of the Jedi because I'm absolutely obsessed with Darth Vader, but unfortunately I have it on regular video not descriptive so that didn't fly. I hope I can find it on descriptive though! We tried listening to the first movie, Star Wars, on descriptive too, but I don't think she enjoyed it very much as she kept interrupting it to do other stuff. Pity. Oh well. It was still an awesome visit even if I don't think she's going to be some one with whom I can share my Vader fascination.
We also talked a lot - a lot of catching up, because it's been ages since we last got together, but also got into a lot of interesting discussions about all the neat philosophical issues, like death and what makes people do what they do, brought up by the Harry Potter book.
Now that I'm back I've got to prepare for an exam on Tuesday and finish an essay, plus I've got to sort out some stuff with my student loans that I pray I haven't left too late. And I don't feel like doing any of it!
