the bartending is going decently well...i ended up working twelve hours yesterday...i don't normally work on saturdays...got a call around 10:45am saying that if i wasn't doing anything else that day, i needed to come in for the 12pm-6pm shift...so i did...i had nothing else planned and it looked like it was going to be a not so fun time at home...i get there and around 4:45pm the bar manager comes over and goes "can you work for the rest of the night?"...so i figure what the hell, i'm already there, i might as well stay...i had no plans and probably would have just stared at the wall at home...so i worked from 12pm to around 2:30am because these assholes wouldn't get out of the back of the bar, even after both the bar manager and i repeatedly asked them to leave...but i got about $230 by the end of the night...added to my $95 for the four hours i worked on thursday, that is a grand total of $325 for sixteen hours of work...figuring that at starbucks, at about $8 an hour (taking out for taxes) i would have made $128 for the same time...and probably would have only been working sixteen hours from the way it was looking when i left...i also can wear jeans to work and even though i have to deal with annoying drunk customers, they are really no more annoying than annoying caffeine addicted customers, so i'm pretty sure that i made the right choice...the last three weeks i have managed to cover more shifts than just mine, so it is some extra money...i am not sure what is going to happen with this job because of possible summer activities, but hopefully because they really only to need to fill four hours a week for four weeks, i will still have it when i get back...and if i don't, i start all over again, but this time with six month experience...
i have finally heard back from some of the audition crap that i sent out a few weeks ago...altamura i haven't heard back from, but i really have no idea what is up with it because that was the weird hotel audition that turned into a voice lesson...pensacola opera hasn't got back to me as to whether or not i have been granted an audition for their resident artist program...i got an acceptance from elardo, which was previously intermezzo, who i went with to belgium last year...i got an acceptance from the amalfi coast music festival...i got an acceptence from opera viva in verona, italy...i was not accepted to the memphis song and opera academy...i haven't yet heard back from the colorado vocal arts symposium...i have not heard back yet from the delaware valley program...i was told to e-mail underworld productions in september to set up an audition...so right now the tally is 1 rejection, 4 acceptances, 4 unknown...right now it looks like i'll be doing elardo again because i will be doing a fully staged opera and opera scenes, where as amalfi will only be opera scenes and i don't know if opera viva will actually be happening because they are not sure they will have enough participation...but at least i'll have something else to put on the resume before i contact underworld productions again so i won't look like i haven't done anything...i still need to find a new teacher...i'm a little flustered trying to go about doing this...i have looked at ads in classical singer and such, but i could put an ad in classical singer as a voice teacher...what i want is a soprano who has worked in opera and focuses on having students that are aiming towards an operatic career who works out of the greater new york area...this shouldn't be hard to find, but it seems that i have to sift through a lot of people, and i am very unsure about how to go about this...
i e-mailed back and forth to that guy a few more times, but he hasn't responded since i wrote him the e-mail a few hours after i had to call 911 regarding the telephone that was on fire across from the senior citizen's rest home in denville, so it is possible i will never hear from him again...which is typical of my life, and quite frankly, alright...because i will die alone, and i know it, and will just have to accept it...and he was already married and that is just sort of awkward...
i tried once more to find the boonton historical district morris county heritage commission marker and failed...i am very tempted to write to the morris county heritage commission and ask them where they hid it...screw being tempted, i just did it...and realized that i completely missed something in boonton, so i am going to have to go back there for that if not for the abandoned trains and the old packard building visible along 287 that taunt me whenever i go to work...i will have to hold off on getting my pictures of the fire gutted mansion off skyline drive, the abandoned houses in oakland off of 202, and the hiking trails up around the mt.hope park area because it is bear season and i take paranoia to a new level...however it is hopefully going to be beautiful weather for me to be able to park my car and go wandering around different towns in search of their historical markers and, hopefully, their skeletons in the closet...last weekend i went up to sussex county to lafayette to explore the 1827 cemetery there...i had been there before...it is possibly the most beautiful cemetery in the world, if for no other reason then it is built on this steep as hell hill that makes all the gravestones stand at weird angles...it looks like they are doing some restoration up there...plywood is keeping up some fallen stones, and there was one that obviously had been lifted off the ground after laying face down for a long while...i am currently sending them to my e-mail via my cellphone and then i will start downloading them, put them up on facebook, and save them for when i decide to put them up on my blog, which not only actually got a comment from someone but now has a second follower whom i have absolutely no idea about...it is some guy from france...strange...
