And when I mean catch-up, I mean some digging back to some old shows. I broke down and finally bought a 2 TB hard drive for backup, but I still need to get my hard drive on the PC cleaned up.
Some random thoughts as I've watched a few recent shows:
Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt - seriously, what was this? Liked some of the off-the-wall humor, but if it wasn't throwing a random joke out, it was full of boring and stupid bits in-between. Reminded me a lot of Powder Puff Girls who've grown up and become crack/sex-addict superheros. Watched about 2 episodes (having to skip thru lame parts too) and just deleted the rest.
Beelzebub - ha! Love Konitan's voice, and I actually really like Mizushima's Furuichi character, the only truly funny character in the show. Beelzebub gets boring after about 2 gurgles, and I want to scream every time they telegraph an impending shock from miles away. *yawn* Really. I admit it occasionally throws in an unexpected funny line, but the jokes and plot lines are old and stale. Struggled through 9 episodes and not sure I want to finish the rest. The character of Hilde - boring and pointless. Oh, I am totally amused though by the stupid Daimaoh who acts like a useless bored teen (with Takahashi Hiroki's voice no less)
Bleach arc finale - ick. Man I really hung in here for sheer stubbornness. I read the closing of the Aizen/Vizard arc on the manga so I know how stupidly it ended, but I was determined to see how stupidly it would be animated. And yes, the ending was stupid on tv too. Can you tell my patience for this manga and anime ran out long ago? Not bothering with this show anymore, and I feel a stupid weight lifted.
Hen Zemi OVA - what the what? I knew it was going to be weird and raunchy, but even that can be done with more fun and zip. This was just dumb and trying to be provocative to say "Oh look at how H we are!! *giggle*". Characters are neither interesting nor funny. And why oh why do they insist on this type of show using character designs that make the characters all look like 13? They're supposed to be older (since they go out for a beer), but it just looks plain wrong to have pre-pubescent looking boy and girl talking dirty and boozing it up. No interest in the new tv series whatsoever.
Boku Otaryman OVA - well, something I enjoyed for a change. Random, minutiae obsessed slice of otary-life drama. Voiced by horse-face himself (simmer down, Miyano fans!). Hehe, I actually dig Miyano Mamoru as a voice actor and he captured the soft spoken and extraordinarily ordinary otary-man well. This one would be worth another watch, if they do make more of this. How the author actually manages to keep his current job (or so the web says) and still churn out this manga is impressive.
God, so many more shows to dig out from, but at least this gave me a few Gb of space now to tide me over 'til new shows start this season. More Gintama, yay!
