Oxfam launch charity event Oxjam

Kasabian, Scissor Sisters and Hot Chip are among the acts set to take part in the UK's biggest ever music festival - and it's all for charity.

Oxjam kicks off this weekend (September 30/October 1) with more than 12,000 people organising musical stunts, record attempts, and countless club nights, gigs and concerts across the country.

More than 1,000 events have already been confirmed, which is expected raise more than £500,000 for the charity's work.

Events taking place throughout October include Buskathon, a 24-hour, non-stop busk being held simultaneously in ten cities across the country, a UK karaoke record attempt in Manchester plus live dates from the likes of Badly Drawn Boy, Embrace, Hot Chip, Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly, De La Soul and Scissor Sisters.

As part of the event, Kasabian have tried their hand at forming a string quartet and The Futureheads went busking on the London Underground.

Gareth Simpson, spokesperson for Oxfam, said:

"We see Oxjam as a kind of Live8 in your back garden - every single person who gets out there and gets involved is the real star of this festival.

"Together, we can all do our bit to fight poverty and enjoy some great new music at the same time."
