SPOILER SPACE
Dear Severus Snape,
Perhaps you are wondering why I am not addressing you with your most-deserved, but perhaps not always well-liked, title, "Professor." I fear it is because you are no longer a Hogwarts Professor. But what use are titles--so often unearned or inaccurate--among those of us who recognize the truth of another?
I think it is not pride that motivates your desire for others to acknowledge your many contributions or to recognize the strengths of your character. Instead, I believe it is your deep respect for the truth that spurs your anger toward those who are, in the most fundamental ways, mistaken about you.
While it may be uncomfortable for you to hear, although I suspect even more deeply desired, I want to let you know that you are brave and clever and loyal, far more than any Potter has ever demonstrated. And you love, more deeply than anyone could ever imagine. You love. Your love is personal and eternal. You have stood guard, faithfully, in the face of near-inhuman obstacles to that love.
Some might dismiss your love by calling it obsessive. They may be right. It is also true, though, that your love has inspired greatness unequaled by all others in your world.
Your love is an example, for those of us who choose to follow it, of devotion unparalleled. We shall keep faith with you, we who know the truth of your actions and the profound extent of your sacrifice. You shall not be alone, nor will you or your achievements be lost. Like Wordsworth, we "see into the heart of things." And we who have seen into the heart of you shall always keep that space in our own hearts most sacred.
With lots of love,
A Mystery Admirer
