Pairing: Xanxus/Haru
Summary: It was weird when Xanxus started attending his meetings with the Decimo…and a lot weirder when he seemed to tolerate it.

Japanese Charm
Squalo blamed it on the sushi.

For the past few weeks, they have been flying back and forth from Italy to Japan, clearing the situation regarding the unfinished assassination mission they were assigned with. At first, it had clearly raged Xanxus, after all, the Varia Commander wasn't at all pleased with answering to the orders of a brat nine years his senior.

Decimo or not, Xanxus wasn't about to bow down to someone who was still too young to handle the Vongola.

But now, as they neared the private airstrip near the city of Namimori, Squalo was clearly bemused about how the situation turned out. He was sure that Xanxus would rather let him shout at the brat and tell him to handle his own problems, but after a month, it seemed that Xanxus was taking missions from Tsunayoshi without complaint.

That was definitely a first.

It must be the sushi. That must be the reason why Xanxus tolerated the meetings--because the Rain Guardian provided them a whole table of it once the meetings commenced.

Of course, with their Varia quality, they have been doing efficient hunts (not killings, to the irritation of Belphegor). The people Tsunayoshi had asked them to look for were now behind bars and Squalo was clearly on the same both as the bloodthirsty prince when it came to their sentiments regarding their assignment.

"Squalo-san, Xanxus-san," a small feminine voice greeted them and Squalo's scowl deepened. "Please follow Haru. Tsuna-san is expecting you in the conference room."

Xanxus merely nodded and followed the small woman and Squalo wasn't too happy to walk with them. Miura Haru had been an acquaintance, as much as he preferred not, for she was always the one who fetched them and brought them to the said conference room where the meetings were held.

But still, she was better than that Storm Guardian, Gokudera. Even if he had matured exponentially, he still couldn't handle the duty of bringing the Varia to his boss--he once said that it felt like feeding Tsuna to the sharks.

Squalo smirked at the memory. At least that was amusing.

But when Xanxus began to come to the meetings, as well, it was Miura who replaced the temperamental Storm Guardian. It was still weird to his ears when he tried to remember the first time she escorted them towards the base, not at all catching the underlying message.

"VOI! Where's that Storm brat?" Squalo demanded in a loud voice, his eyes glued to the young woman who, apparently, was now tasked to take them to the Vongola base.

He was expecting for her to succumb into fear or to plainly state Gokudera's whereabouts, but never did he think of her getting angry.

"Haru is your guide. Gokudera-kun is not going to be guiding you anymore." Her reply was sharp and her glare was intense…and if Squalo wasn't practiced enough by receiving Xanxus' venomous glares most of the time, he was sure that this woman would have him crawling by the knees with just a stare.

Xanxus' rage seemed to have found it's counterpart.

"Besides," the woman continued, her sharp glare now fixated on the Varia Commander. "you should ask your boss about that."

Haru walked on and Squalo stared at Xanxus' scowling face…at least his boss contained the same sentiments.

"Boss, why is she our--"

"Shut the fuck up, scum." Xanxus pushed him and followed Haru, the scowl still residing on his face.

Squalo shook his head and followed. He can pester his boss later, anyway.

At first, Squalo thought that Xanxus was merely holding his anger in. He was still raised a gentleman by the Vongola Nono, thus, he was thought never to hit a woman. And as far as Squalo was concerned, it seemed pretty stupid to just hit a woman just by the reason that she annoyed you.

And the fact that she was a part of the Vongola Decimo's family wasn't going to help either.

That was why Squalo thought that Xanxus also couldn't tolerate her. The way he lashed out on the Varia headquarters after every meeting strengthened that guess, too.

"Just wait for a bit." Haru halted and turned the knob on the door. "Tsuna-san, the Varia are here to see you."

Then, to Squalo's dismay, she did the very same reaction she does whenever Tsunayoshi would beckon them inside.

She smiled and blushed and sputtered nonsensical facts about what had just transpired--and she had done that to in the past…she was doing it every single time.

"Move woman." Then Xanxus would stop her tirade and glare, earning the same sentiments from the woman, as well. "I don't like scum getting in my way."

Before, Haru would just glare, shout at his boss and walk off once Tsunayoshi asked her to leave. But now, her reaction was different.

Of course, she glared. She would never miss the opportunity to glare at Xanxus when given to her, but the shouting…

…was replaced with a smile.

"Of course." The glare withered away like it didn't mean anything…and Squalo was now looking at her with wide eyes.

"Tsuna-san," she then gave her attention to the equally-surprised Decimo and smiled sweetly at him. "I'll just be outside. Call me if you need anything."

And then she kissed him on the cheek--

--and the Decimo fell to the ground with a resounding sound.

"V-VOI! Xanxus!" Squalo acted quickly even when he was still shocked and held his boss back. "What are you doing, you teme!"

Xanxus' scars were showing. He was fucking livid.

"Fucking scum!" He pulled himself away from Squalo's hold and gripped Haru's wrist, all the while his burning gaze lingering on Tsunayoshi. "I said I don't want trash getting in the way."

It was a threat. Everyone could feel the killing intent permeating in the air.

"What do you think you're doing?!"

Except her.

"Let me go, Xanxus!" She glared and even kicked him on his leg, earning a growl in return. "H-Hahi--mmpph!!"

Squalo erased all previous assumptions from his mind.

It was definitely not the sushi.

end.
