There was a rattling sound, plastic hitting plastic and then ‘clunk clunk clunk’ as something bounced across the table and stopped.
Slowly the yonger man looked up from beneath his lashes and smirked at the man sitting across the table from him. “One, two, three, four, five, six, and I get to roll again.”
He reached for the dice and placed it back into the shaker, the sound rattled around the otherwise silent room. Eyes were locked once more as the dotted plastic cube was released from it’s casing.
‘Clunk, clunk, clunk.’
“Ha! A one, my turn now Teddy.”
After moving his counter he handed the shaker over to his father and sat with his head in his hands just watching him. “This isn’t fair you know, we’ve already played this once and I won and then you turn around and change the rules saying best two out of three.”
“Well that wasn’t a fair game, I sneezed and knocked all the counters everywhere, who’s to say I wouldn’t have won if that hadn’t have happened?”
“You sneezed on purpose because you were losing.” The younger Lupin gaze the elder, the looks between them belonged, very much so, in the showdown scene in a Westen movie. Fingers twitching, eyes narrowing just before the quick draw and someone’s death.
“I wouldn’t do that son, it’s just like I’ve taught you, always play fair.” He shook the dice and moved his counter, handing the shaker back to Teddy.
“You almost never play fair. How many times have you cheated at cards against me, or one of the other games? You even cheat when I’m mad at you for something, you grab me and tickle me because you know it’ll stop me being mad because I can’t stop laughing.”
Remus smiled a little, it was devious, he knew his son better than anyone, he knew exactly which buttons to press with him, but you wouldn’t expect anything else from people who were as close as they were. Teddy really was his fathers son.
“Stop moaning and just throw will you, your mum’ll be home soon and if we’re still playing there will be hell to pay, you know this.”
“Well if you had just admited that I won the first game fair and square then we wouldn’t still be playing.” He shook the dice and moved his counter, “If I lose this, you know we’ll have to play again don’t you, Mum’ll be home and I’ll tell her you cheated and it’ll be all your fault.”
“Is that so?”
“Yeah, that’s so.” He grinned at his father, that mischievious look in her eyes that so often mirrored Remus’, “She’ll get mad and hide you’re chocolate for a whole week.”
“Is that so?”
“Yeah, that’s so.”
“She wouldn’t.”
“She would.”
“She wouldn’t.”
“She would.”
“I’d take yours from you then, If I couldn’t have any you couldn’t have any, all’s fair after all.”
“Fair? You cheated and said we had to play another game.” He took his turn. One, two, three, four, “HA!” He stood up and tossed the shaker at his father, “You have to dry the dishes while I wash them. You lose!”
