Musical Landscapes of the Mind

Most of the time, I find that albums are amazing in the first half and lag in the second. But, every so often, I find an album that I absolutely enjoy in it's entirety. This is true of the album I just recently picked up, Lord Huron's Lonesome Dreams. You can find their music here.

The feeling while listening to the notes is of a gentle soaring high, while the image is of traveling through a vast mental landscape full of mystery and beauty. It's a comfortable place to be and something of a stress reliever because I can immerse myself in the landscapes the music creates. However, the feeling is not necessarily one of happiness, but just of deep emotion. Previously, other albums that have affected me in the same way are Passion Pit's Manners (it took me a while to get into it, but once I did, I was hooked), the Inception soundtrack for some weird reason, and Pure Moods was one I fell in love with in high school. There are more, though not too many.

Certain songs also affect me in the same way. Enya's "Carribean Blue", Bombay Bicycle Club's "Shuffle", Murray Gold's "This is Gallifrey", "Onwards!", "Signora Rosanna Calvierri", and "Amy in the TARDIS", Andrew Bird's "Simple Exercises", "Skin is My", and "The Trees Were Mistaken", Arcade Fire's "Ready to Start".

The feeling goes beyond just liking the song and its catchy tune to something evocative of deeper emotion. Anyway, I suggest you check out Lord Huron. I would really like to see them live.

Next time, some art posts. It's been far too long!
