My mom, who was against me getting rats in the first place, is now saying that I should get a cagemate for Esme because she hates thinking of that little rat all alone without a friend. When I can, I'm taking Izzy to the vet to see if she has a chronic infection that can be passed along to other rats. If so, then she'd have to live solo.

I've been browsing Craigslist and it looks like a few people nearby have both litters and full-grown rats they're trying to sell.
