on_thecouch 7.3. Rebuild.

Waving goodbye, Audrey watched as the last carpool of Rockettes drove past the entrance of Radio City. She was envious that they were already on their way home while she was left outside in the chilly fall wind. Leon was going to be there soon to pick her up anyway. Her car was currently at the repair shop, the issue was unknown to her, Leon just said it needed looking at, and she did exactly what he told her to do. She trusted him with her life.

Which was why she was confident she’d see his car pull up to the building any second now. Ten minutes passed by and Audrey was still standing under the neon lights. Her positions ranged from standing, leaning, pacing, and eventually squatting. She couldn’t even bother watching car pass anymore, it was flat out depressing getting her hopes up, and watching it be taken away as a car rushed past her.

Any minute now…

When a car finally did slow to a stop, Audrey was so convinced that it wasn’t her ride, she couldn’t even lift her head. A honk awoke her from her trance. Raising to her feet, she wiped her hands on her black dress pants, and pulled the strap of her bag onto her shoulder. She was determined to give Leon a piece of her mind.

“Leonardo Rudolph Vice, Do you have any idea how long I’ve bee-” She wailed, pulling the passengers door open. Stopping mid sentence, Audrey’s mouth fell open. The driver wasn’t Leon. Blinking, she pulled her head out of the car, and glanced at the exterior. It was defiantly Leon’s Lexus. “Dallas what are you doing?” She asked, her eyebrows disappearing behind her bangs.

“Picking you up.” He responded slowly. “Come on, get in, it’s cold outside.”

If Audrey wasn’t so bloody cold and tired, she would have refused. Sighing in defeat she climbed into the car. The radio kept the awkwardness to a complete low, for once Audrey just didn’t care. The thought of ignoring Dallas seemed a lot more possible then she could have ever imagined.

“Audrey talk to me.” Dallas demanded his voice soft, as he turned down the volume.

Audrey rested her head against the door, and pondered for a moment. Maybe she should tell him exactly how she felt. “What do you want me to say? You bring out the worst in me, and I absolutely hate you, Dallas. I thought maybe there could be a chance to rebuild this relationship, but no you- we fucked this because of that god awful dinner, and to make matters worse I think I destroyed my relationship between me and my boyfriend because of you.” The bitterness in her voice cut Dallas deeper then he could admit. It hurt him so much that he couldn’t even find is own voice.

“I’m sorry.” He murmured after the Lexus slowed to a stop at a red light. “If I would have known this is how everything would be, I would have never came back.”

“What did you expect!” Audrey bellowed, before sinking lower into her chair as she sighed loudly.

“Well, I didn’t expect this. I thought that despite everything that’s happened, there could be a chance that we could still be friends. Audrey, I want to rebuild this this friendship, but your not letting me in.”

“There’s nothing for you to rebuild, we were never friends, Dallas.” She admitted, desperately wishing she hadn’t gotten into the car.

That was enough to shut the young editor up. “Why do you have Leon’s car?” Audrey questioned awkwardly when the silence was too much to bare.

“Leon and a few friends are at a club. I’m the designated driver.” Dallas responded listlessly.

“Is Teagan included in that group of friends?” When Dallas nodded, Audrey rolled her eyes. That explained everything, as she missed Teagan at practice. “I didn’t hear my cell phone ring.”

“That’s the thing, Audrey. My flight leaves tonight, and they just wanted to throw a goodbye party without the drama that we brought to dinner. Teagan felt horrible, and insisted that I talk to you. She really wants you to be there, same with Leon, Eletha, and everyone else. I want you to be there too.” Dallas explained softly, turning into the underground parking of Audrey’s apartment.

At that, Audrey debated. Maybe letting Dallas in would benefit everyone, especially her. “Alright, Just wait here, and I’ll quickly change.” She agreed, gently pushing open the car door. Pausing, she turned her head towards Dallas and flashed him a genuine smile. “Dallas, I’m sorry, I was such a bastard.” He shook his head in response.

“We all have those moments. I won’t hold it against you.” Giving his forearm a gently squeeze, Audrey exited the car in a better mood then she was in when she entered.
