truth_or_dare : Dare 12: Recreate something from your childhood.

A fond smile was visible on Audrey’s lips while she glanced around the familiar bedroom that once belonged to her. It wasn’t her bedroom anymore, just a spare bedroom, yet it still felt like home. The room held so many memories, and although it didn’t hold her personal touches anymore.

The once yellow walls were painted a modern shade of brown. Plaid green and blue bed sheets, replaced with expensive tapestry bedding. Lowering herself onto the bed, Audrey closed her eyes, and tried to remember when everything was uncomplicated. When her biggest fears were related to dance auditions.

It took a moment before she grew curious. Was her every existence of living in this room wiped clean? Raising into a sitting position, She surveyed the room. Looking closer at the details this time. Nothing stayed the same, yet she was convinced something that belonged to her was left behind.
Lowering herself onto the ground, Audrey searched under the bed. Sure enough, tucked away in the far corner was a pink box, a thin layer of dust gathered on the lid. She knew what was held in the box; how could she forget?

Reaching under the bed, she pulled the box out, and gingerly brushed the dust away with her fingers, before lifting the lid. A handful of stuffed animals were neatly stacked inside. The smile on Audrey’s face increased, while she lifted the stuffed bear at the top of the pile out of the box. It was worn with age, and clothed in a dress that clearly wasn’t professionally sewn. The teddy bears name was molly.

At a young age Audrey was given Molly for her birthday. When she complained that her friend didn’t have any clothes. Rachael hand stitched a dress for her daughters teddy.
For a number of years, Molly was first one to know Audrey’s happiness and worries. However as the childish imagination that fuelled Molly with a personality depleted, she became nothing more then a juvenile stuffed toy.

“I’m sorry.” Audrey murmured, turning Molly around in her hands. The dark button eyes stared unresponsively back at her. Feeling foolish, Audrey closed the lid, and raised to her feet. Still holding Molly protectively in her hands, she settled back onto the bed.

Audrey was too distracted to realize her father had stumbled into the room, and sat on an armchair positioned across from the bed. “I haven’t seen you hold that toy since you were a kid.”

“Since I was 12 to be exact.” Audrey corrected with a smile.

“You miss your childhood, don’t you, Pumpkin?” David questioned, reaching his hand out to Audrey. Taking his hand, Audrey stepped towards him, but hesitated when she realised he wanted her to sit in his lap. She couldn’t, she wasn’t a little girl anymore. “Dad. I’ll break you legs.” She warned with a laugh.

“I’m strong boned.” was his response, and obediently she gingerly climbing onto the chair.

Sitting more on the arm rest then her fathers legs, she chuckled. “I’m far too old for this.” Relaxing against her father, she rested her head against his shoulder. “I really did miss this.”

David pressed a kiss against her forehead, “Audrey, Pumpkin, your always welcome to come home.”
