4th sewing project: bow belt
30 October 2008- Some time last year, I was shopping at Bugis when I came across a pretty bow belt of a gorgeous sunny yellow, a slim, delicate piece of girlish frivolity that warmly pressed its suit against my girly sensibilities, tugging at my heart strings and my wallet with coquettish onslaughts. Though it never quite succeeded with my purse, I became fixated with the idea of making my very own bow belt from scratch.

So, based on this rough guide on how to sew a double-layered bow hairband from one of my mum's many sewing books, I modified the measurements, did away with the smocked strap, and started work on my bow belt.

The end result. On my mother's suggestion, I sewed on two spring press stud buttons to the bottom of the bow and the middle of the belt. This allows the bow to be removed for easier washing and separate ironing, always a plus point when it comes to choosing what to wear, if you do your own laundry and iron your own clothes.

And here's an outfit featuring the belt. The scarf around my neck led my dear friend into thinking I was play-acting as an air stewardess that day. Thanks Hwee Bing, would you like coffee or tea ma'am? :D

Above, other accessories: Of roses and tea - 1. Blue, pink, and red scarf of roses (pardon the crumpled state!). I fell in love with the intricately woven flowers. The pinks graduating to whites bring to mind the extensive rose garden as described in Lady Polgara's manor house, from David & Leigh Eddings' companion novels to The Belgariad and The Malloroen stories:
"It was a white rose, but not entirely. The tips of the petals were a pale lavender.";

2. The corsage pinned to my cardigan, which otherwise serves as a bouquet of roses for my bridal doll when I'm not using it.
