126 women wearing pants

Dec 13, 2008 21:04

2 October 2008- as a skirt and dress girl through and through, it has been many years since i last wore pants not because i was compelled to out of sheer necessity (think holidays in cold countries and backstage duties during drama productions), but as a fashion statement.

do wearing trousers bestow a sense of empowerment on women? i hardly agree. for me they show, only just too readily, the flaws in my figure, bringing along with each separate leg not just an awkward self-consciousness, magnified twofold, but also discomfort. if it were not for the fact that my mum had made a beautiful blouse with a unique, gathered collar that crept down the back in the style of Kate Spade (above), i would not have worn pants, the only sort of bottoms that appeared to truly complement it.

green blouse with gathered collar - made by mum for herself
beige pants with kangaroo pouch pockets, altered from long and wide-legged to mid calf with a band at the bottom - Hong Kong
tan messenger bag last carried here - Italy
bead drop earrings - pushcart at Cineleisure
pearl ring - mum's
checkered bow hairclip with rose corsage and lace - from childhood
nude pumps with criss-cross buckle detail - Charles & Keith

the high waisted, ballooning pants masked my thick thighs and proportionately shorter lower body, but it also endowed me with a less-than-welcome titanic bum at the back. i shudder to think how many people saw that abominable sight that day, and i was blissfully unaware. what an exemplar of an eyesore, indeed!

the only saving grace then, i hope, were the beautiful details of the neck...

...and my accessories.

"brown, when used as a general term, represents a tertiary color that is a dark yellow, orange, or red, of low luminance relative to lighter or white colored objects." - playing around with the variations, shades, and complements of the colour brown today, my choice of accessories, bag and shoes marry together earthly tones of dark brown, bronze, tan, nude beige, gold, orange, dark red and clear quartz.
clockwise from left to right: drop earrings with irregularly shaped beads, mum's pearl ring (the pearl represents the flower on the stalk of ruby leaves), nude pumps with buckles and criss-cross straps which wrap the feet up in a dumpling like manner, tan leather messenger bag from Italy, bow hairclip with a rose corsage and lace, that i wore as a child.
