118 3rd sewing project: the scallop waist

Dec 01, 2008 19:44

19 August 2008- taking a cue from these subverted scallop waist berms in united bamboo's s/s 2006 collection, my next project was to fashion myself a straight cut skirt in the same vein. the sewing master, my mother, failed to understand my enthusiastic bordering-on-fanaticism appreciation of the scallop waist, but nonetheless showed me how it could be done.

the 'scallop' template i painstakingly measured and drew with my compass. my mother later corrected me by adding a rectangular strip at the bottom to attach to the main body of the skirt. how silly of me to have forgotten to draw that!
she also advised me to start drawing the scallop edges from the center of the skirt.

the final result:

white blouse with lantern sleeves last worn here - GG<5
blue and white pinstripe skirt with scallop waist - self made
silver bird silhouette ring - Blanc & Reed
ivory jazz shoes - South Korea via EarlGreyParty

original pictures from the catalogue as well as a picture of the real shoe on the bottom right.
the jazz shoes have a little heel. they are a dream to look at but a nightmare to walk in. the unspoken, tacit agreement of suffering ugly bruises came as a package together with the shoes when i received them in my mail.

on the twenty-eighth of april my true love sent to me, a bird perching on a silver band :)
