082 it's a pirate!

May 04, 2008 20:59

from sketch to reality, a modern reinterpretation of a famous gramophone and dog logo, which is rather ironic don't you think, given how dogs are used to sniff out pirated cds in present times. of course, it was never my intention to falsely accuse said store of selling pirated goods.

initial sketch by the left hand. the idea came about when i stumbled upon my gramophone necklace one day while rummaging through my accessories box. i realised i had never worn the necklace even once, ever. my eyes caught sight of my cat and dog necklace in the same box just then. the aforementioned logo flashed into mind almost immediately. i decided there and then to make a brooch out of the gramophone pendant, since as it is, the money was already spent; i wasn't going to wear that necklace, neither was i going to sell it.

it's a pirate! brooch

the black chain wasn't quite what i had envisioned, but this will do as well. the thinner silver chain was dismantled from another necklace i had purchased and yet to wear, too. while test driving my new brooch, it occurred to me that i had completely neglected how heavy the gramophone was, and therefore thus the CG (center of gravity) of the brooch. luckily, it was nothing an additional pin could not solve.
