one day while thinking idly on the subject of marriage proposals, it suddenly dawned on me that an engagement ring is as good as a bribe to the bride-to-be. it's hard to think of a more satisfactory reason for the very stunned, enthusiastic look on Gabrielle's face when Carlos Solis proposes to her with a huge diamond ring (Desperate Housewives). does she love him? if she does, how do you explain her many love affairs?
you can't buy love, but you can purchase a wife. there, i've said it, me with my slightly feminist views, in my most neutral objective voice possible. perhaps, as is mostly the case, it will be part love, part lured into thinking that the amount of money he spends to procure this ring is testament of his love for you. even if it wasn't, we are so steeped into thinking that an inexpensive band is akin to telling the other half she is not worth your hard-earned money, that we will opt for something pricier and fancier anyway.
1. De Beers Power of the Rose ring i have no respect for women who fall prey to diamond rings. diamonds are boring and common (hear, hear!). they are only tasteful in small amounts, when used to augment a certain design, like this flower here. US$6000, only available in stores.
2. Dior Oui ring definitely a cute way to say yes. probably dior should make one in 'non' too, should she choose to reject the proposal. probably you wouldn't like the idea, pardon me. US$625 from e-luxury.
3. Kiel Mead Forget-Me-Knot ring gives a whole new meaning to the phrase 'tie the knot'.
