I'm still shocked by the images of yesterday's Metro crash. Un-fucking-believable. Like everyone else around here I'm very curious as to how this happened and what caused the proximity software to fail and why the driver didn't pull the break. It's very unsettling.
On a much happier note, this weekend I went on the Loudoun Artist's Studio Tour with
bbennett,
harpinred and B's mother. I spent way too much money, but I bought some really cool stuff. I actually started the day by commissioning a porcelain jar from one of my favorite potters and talking to her about maybe taking some classes later in the year. Then we went to several other studios. At my other favorite potter's I bought a stoneware jar. It's smaller and much more rustic than the one I commissioned but it's beautiful in it's wood-fired way. Then we moved on to this water colorists studio. I didn't think much of her work, but oddly won the raffle so I came home with one of her prints anyway. Luckily it was the only thing I liked in the studio. Then we hit one last place. This was the studio of a woman who works with enamel. I fell in love with one of her smaller wall pieces and after some spousal consultation, purchased it. Joy! It's currently/temporarily hanging in my office, but I want B to come over and help me find a better place for it. It's too tucked away where it is now, but there was already a nail there. So good weekend.
Tomorrow a friend and I are going down to Saluda to visit our former boss. I know weird. We're staying over night and coming back Thursday. I'm kind of looking forward to it, kind of anxious. You know, out of my element, hole in the head thing, but I think it will be good and the friend I'm going with is very aware of my issues, so it's all good. It should be a good time and I'm taking the laptop so I'll have my pacifier.
