It feels like forever since the last time I posted. It's hard to believe that Election Day was only two weeks ago. Time is moving way too fast for me. Next thing you know, it'll be Christmas. At least I am almost done with my Christmas shopping. Just have to get a couple more things, and decide what to get for Dad and I'm all set.
So, I should probably update on what's been going on with me. I finally got a new job, which rules. A little backstory: I had had to miss a bunch of days of work at the theatre because of my back problems, and since they have this really weird phone setup wherein sometimes you call the box office and will get a busy signal for hours at a time (a bad system if you ask me), they thought I didn't call to tell them. So, they fired me. It was not too bad, though. I mean, Mrs. D. understood when I explained to her, but she said there was nothing she could do. She did say I did a great job and would have kept me if it were possible, but that kind of thing always seems kind of fake and totally never helps you feel better. And they were down to like 3 shifts every two weeks, so they couldn't rehire me. It sucks to lose the free movies, but I know that shortly I would have ended up hating the job so maybe it's better that that happened. Right.
So, anyway, I went around looking at places to work and came thisclose to having jobs at both the JC Penney catalog center and Blockbuster. The catalog paid great for part time, but they had this totally retarded policy where you couldn't cap your hours after the beginning of November. So, theoretically I could have been working 30+ hours a week during finals time. Lame! Plus, and I think this is the reason they never called back after my interview, they wanted all seasonal people to work Christmas Day (or maybe it was only Christmas Eve, but I think it was both), and they didn't like the fact that I go to NC to visit family. I mean, they had to check with some head honcho of some type to get the okay, which I guess they didn't get. So, that sucked.
I was way more interested in working at Blockbuster because, hey, free movies yet again. I totally nailed the interview, but for some reason the manager called me and said they really liked me but didn't like my availability (and not Christmas, either, cause they didn't care about that). I mean, at least she was nice enough to call me, but I feel like four days with availability anytime and two other evenings free is plenty. Whatever.
So, at this point I am just getting applications anywhere that looks remotely interesting. When I went to the Disney Store to pick up my preordered copy of Aladdin (yay, lithographs!), I filled out one of those mini applications with availability and stuff even though I didn't really want to work there. And, guess what? They called me back for an interview a few weeks later when I was in Syracuse staying with former roommate P. Then to make matters even weirder, they ended up hiring me, one of the world's least cheerful people. Go figure.
I am working there a reasonable amount so far, but alas, more of my shifts are on call (basically being a scheduled alternate, not on call like a doctor), and they didn't need me at all this weekend. Good for my back, bad for my bank account.
It is actually a pretty fun job. Everyone is a bit too cheerful-all-the-time for my tastes, and I feel totally awkward following customers (they call them "Guests") around the store trying to sell stuff, but I have to say I'm thrilled to not be working with food. Plus, I get a decent employee discount so I can buy Christmas gifts (and an ultra-cool A Nightmare Before Christmas mug). We'll see how long it takes before I am ready to kill someone there (probably a "Guest" since the other employees are very nice so far). Next Friday will be a great test since it is Black Friday and we open at 5:00AM. Makes me tired just thinking about it.
Well, that's about all I can think of on the job front. I do have a ton of other stuff to post about, but I'd rather space it out over several posts than lump it all together. Besides, I need to take a nap. More later.
Edited to Add: Ok, clearly I wasn't paying attention when I sent this (first time e-mail posting and all). It should be "lj-mood" colon, not "lj-mood" equals sign. Dumbass.
