Birthdays and bad movies (also some good movies!)

Jul 25, 2009 13:35

I had a pretty good birthday yesterday. Not the best one I've ever had, but certainly not the worst. That title belongs to my 18th birthday when we had to clean out my grandparents kitchen after a fire and log everything for insurance purposes, including the rotted food in the refrigerator. In North Carolina in July it gets very hot and humid. So, you can imagine how awful that was. As I said in another post I made a few years ago, I will never smell anything worse than that. Ever.

But this birthday was not bad. I got to sleep late, which was nice, but I am still pissed at my body for not allowing me to fall asleep earlier and wake up earlier. I really need to fix my sleep schedule! We went to dinner at a nice local Italian place, which (as is par for the course in Scranton, it seems) doesn't have a website. We followed that up with Coldstone Creamery for dessert (om nom nom), and I got a couple of nice presents from my mom, and will be getting a nice present from my dad. He's going to pay for part of my new desktop computer, which is going to be pretty cheap in the first place (building your own computer for the win!), but he's getting me the most expensive parts, so that will be awesome. It's been at least six or seven years since I've gotten a new desktop, so I am very excited to have a computer that will actually run several programs at once without being really slow. Also, it is probably a fifth of the size of the tower I have now, so that is going to rule. I'll actually be able to use my desktop again! And take advantage of the shiny 22" monitor I've had for several years! :DDD

Also, I got to pick the movie we're seeing tomorrow, and I choose Moon. I've heard some really good things about it, so am excited to see it. Will let you all know how it is.

So, today I'm at mom's store all day, since my parents are in NJ at a wedding. I would have been invited to do the videography, but since I haven't delivered the wedding video to the bride's sister from her wedding yet, I not surprised they didn't ask me. I should be able to will get that done in the next two weeks, though, so at least I'll get it to them before they've been married for a year. /o\ I feel like I need to get some editing software for my own computer, so I don't have to rely on Dad's, which is at his office and is a pain in that ass to get to (hence why the video's not done).

My plans for after work are to go home and watch the library's copy of The Princess Diaries 2 so I can return it. Can you believe it actually has holds? Clearly there is someone else out there who is also attempting to watch the films of Chris Pine. :D

I'm also attempting to watch movies that the rest of the Star Trek XI cast are in. I have a bunch of DVDs out, and out of the ones I've watched so far, Hearts In Atlantis is the clear front runner. Anton Yelchin was the most adorable child, and the acting all around is really excellent. I may actually buy it later. Just My Luck was pretty good (Chris Pine's character was also adorable! ♥), but certainly not my favorite Lindsay Lohan movie (that's probably Freaky Friday). I still have to watch The Chronicles of Riddick (I watched Pitch Black in preparation, and that was good), Ghost Ship, Blind Dating, Charlie Bartlett, and Doom.

I tried watching Pathfinder, but. It was really really bad, you guys. :\ I mean, it has Karl Urban in a loin cloth, so you'd think it would be watchable, at least for that, but no. Not only was it boring (how do you make battle scenes and pillaging boring?), but there was a really gross scene involving an eyeball (one of my biggest squicks). At that point I ended up just turning it off, since it wasn't interesting enough to make up for the grossness. Maybe I'll try it again when I'm in the mood to mock, or something, but it's just too awful to watch as a serious movie. Ugh, why is Karl Urban in such bad movies? D:

Okay, so now I'll attempt to post this, but will probably not succeed since the wireless connection in mom's store is hideous. [eta]Wow, it actually posted! Go figure.[/eta] Then I will finish making the list of DVDs I'm selling for a friend and make a separate post about those. Later, y'all!
