A father without a daughter, and a daughter without a father.

It makes sense that they should be drawn to each other, each seeking comfort in a city too cold, too far away from home.

Trying to replace the pieces of themselves that have been damaged and lost forever.

"Chandra" he says, the first sound strangely liquid, the vowel soft, and the R not quite rolled; and no matter how many times she hears it, she just can't make her tongue do it.

She's not used to things not doing what she tells them to.

"Chandra," she says, all harsh angles and botched rhythm. It's only seven letters, how goddamned hard can it be? Her face scrunches up, wide pixie eyes narrowed in frustration.

It's an adorable expression, and Chandra laughs. Her eyes snap up, and there's something hard in them that goes unnoticed before she's laughing too, his mirth infectious.

"I'm sorry," she giggles, "I'll get it."

He pats her hand affectionately. "Just call me Papa Suresh."
