New Year's festivities

For New Year's the roomie and I actually seem to have executed a genuine, adult-type gathering! Go figure.

Regrettably this involved braving the grocery store yesterday afternoon, which was a horror better left un-recounted, but since we got out of Superstore with our food and without killing anyone, I'm calling it a win.

Our mad, bad New Year celebrations.

There was alcohol later, we swear!

I'm sorry, I'm just kind of embarrassingly, dorkily enamoured of these tiered plates.

The theme for the evening was Tiny Food.

The centrepiece, my grandma's silver tea service.

It may actually be my great-grandma's, I don't remember. Brave and valiant artemisiabrisol spent the afternoon polishing it up. First time it's been used for actual tea since about 1989.

The Savoury plates.

From top to bottom: open-faced salmon and cream cheese sandwiches, cucumber sandwiches, and pizza pinwheels. We have decided that a) the whole point of cucumber sandwiches is that they are scandalously wasteful, and b) they are so much work that this is probably why they had servants make them.

The Sweet Plate

From top to bottom: maelie's liqueur chocolates, chocolate chip cookies, and Tiny Wee Scones. Arranged artfully about them are, from left to right, pear jam, blackcurrant and pomegranate jam, blackcurrant jam, and behind that in the green dish, Devon cream.

And then, for the legitimately healthy portion of the meal...

...there`s some fruit. Okay, we may have ruined this by a) including marshmallows and b) including this only because there was fondue. But hey, I made fondue!

Despite foisting off as many leftovers on departing guests as was humanly possible, we still have about week's worth of tiny food left to eat. And this morning there were waffles. From scratch! Have I mentioned how much I adore our sandwich/waffle maker? It has changed our lives. I may never eat again, though.

And now I'm going to take a nap. Or possibly write fic. We'll see what happens.
