Progress (little to report).
So, I have done nothing of substance since Friday, in case you were wondering. I still haven't typed out my journal-y things from Dexcon, but will. Er. Let's see. I have sudden desire to go to Meadows Video and watch random animes that people on my Flist are suddenly reccing left and right. Not Naruto, no. That's apparently coming in the mail, and I'd rather wait 'til I've got it all so I don't self-destruct with crazy impatience as everyone keeps telling me I will do if I don't *get* to watch it all at once. Any other suggestions? That aren't Bleach? Hmm.
Oh. Mum and I went to Ikea for brekkie this morning, mostly to go to Chapters afterward so I could spend obscene amounts of money on books to qualify for redeeming my Harry Potter gift card. Which turned out to be worth five dollars. Ah, well. Got Someplace to be Flying, the first Cardcaptor Sakura manga (Chapters scatters manga all over the store - it's really quite confusing, but they did have five copies of The Day I Swapped My Dad For Two Goldfish, so that's a credit to them), and two of my school books for Fall semester, one of which I'm now halfway through. I forgot how easy a read is Agatha Christie. The A&E makes of her series, which I do watch, because yay, mystery TV, reflect that, I guess, but one never expects it in that direction. (Reminds me, again, that Murder, She Wrote, is now on DVD. ;)) Anyway. It's a Poirot book. I didn't realize that when I bought it. And one I think I've actually seen. Heh. The other one is by Ian Rankin, the first book of another series. See, this is the downside to this course. The upside is that they're reasonably contemporary fiction, so I don't get too bogged-down in the period-ness (which I often do unless it's clever, or is of a genre I actually like - Romance is not, as far as I'm concerned, a genre, so I get bored easily). The downside is that I *like* mystery novels, but don't go looking for them on purpose often, but if I have to read these, and there are *sequels*... sigh.
Anyway, it turns out that Ordering Books Into the Store does not count as In-Store Purchasing, and therefore did not qualify for the gift card, and they only had two of my books in-store in *any* Lower Mainland store, so I couldn't use all the fifty-dollar minimum on schoolbooks. Woe. ;) I considered, then decided to order the rest of my textbooks minus two or three on the website, as they were all quite a bit cheaper. I was going to buy them Chapters Used, but that came out actually *more* expensive than Chapters New (as Rare and Used books don't qualify for free shipping - something about the insurance and them not being able to replace things if they're lost), and the shipping took two weeks longer, so I ordered them New and they should be here in a bit over a week. All for a hundred or so less than the school store. That... is deeply wrong, but I got my books, so all's good. Still a few to get that I can only get at school. In the meantime, I read the ones I have, in publication order, because I don't know the order we'll be doing them in class, but publication order seems reasonable enough. Am absolutely not going to read the De Lint until I've read at least the two schoolbooks I've got. My marks really count this Fall, so actually managing to read all the books assigned would be a good start. (Still haven't got all my marks from this semester - though got a B- in the 19th-Century lit. I cannot describe my apathy.)
Prevailed upon parents for groceries yesterday - came away with gargantuan box of cereal and a multitude of canned things. Still really need a job, and what the hell is this I'm watching? While I'm at it, why is this room such a pit? This plfdace has gone dowasnhill since I mo;'ved out, I'm telling you. pll,"';p['';
*pets dog* That last line can be translated as my dog Mincha informing me urgently, with much piteous moaning and beating of the laptop, that I'm not paying her enough attention. ;)
Ought to do my laundry now, whilst neither sister is in the house to stop me, and read some more of The Murder of Roger Ackroyd.
