3. Koi Fariyaad(Tum Bin) - Poetry Translation Month

Cover of Jagjit Singh

Written by Faaiz Anwar and sung by the legendary Jagjit Singh, Koi Fariyaad is one of the most beautiful Ghazals I have heard. Composed by Nikhil-Vinay for the 2001 movie Tum Bin, its presence is complimentary to the beautiful soundtrack of the movie.

I make it a point of watching any movie whose music I love, in that regard Tum Bin is one of the few movies I am yet to watch. What is even more ironic was that the reviews I have heard about the movie have been very positive. Maybe one of these days I will take time out and watch this movie.

This post is dedicated to a dear friend of mine who reintroduced me to this song a little while back.

Lyrics: Faaiz Anwar

Album: Tum Bin

Vocals: Jagjit Singh

Music: Nikhil-Vinay

Here is my translation of the beautiful song…

Koi Fariyaad Tere Dil Mein Dabi Ho Jaise

Tune Aankhon Se Koi Baat Kahi Ho Jaise…

Jaagte Jaagte Ek Umr Kati Ho Jaise

Jaan Baaki Hai Magar Saans Ruki Ho Jaise…

As if some request is hidden in your heart

As if you have said something through eyes…

As if a lifetime has passed while we stayed awake

As if there is still life but the breath has stopped…

Har Mulaakat Pe Mehsoos Yehi Hota Hai

Mujhse Kuchh Teri Nazar Poochh Rahi Ho Jaise…

Raah Chalte Hue Aksar Yeh Ghumaan Hota Hai

Woh Nazar Chhup Ke Mujhe Dekh Rahi Ho Jaise…

Everytime we meet, it feels the same.

As if your eyes are asking me something…

While walking down a path,I get this feeling

As if your eyes are secretly watching me

Ek Lamhe Mein Simat Aaya Hai Sadiyon Ka Safar

Zindagi Tez Bahut Tez Chali Ho Jaise

Is Tarah Pehron Tujhe Sochta Rehta Hoon Main

Meri Har Saans Tere Naam Likhi Ho Jaise

As if a moment contained in it a journey of ages

As if the life is passing by us very fast

I think about you every time like this

As if my every breath was for you
