Top 5 Things I Learnt This Week
This week’s list is slightly inspired by the wonderful Italian dinner I had a couple of days ago
- The word basil comes from the Greek βασιλεύς (basileus), meaning “king”, as it is believed to have grown above the spot where St. Constantine and Helen discovered the Holy Cross. - Was reading about Basil after the lovely dinner and realized that its Enthmology was pretty exciting!
- New year’s Day was not always celebrated on 1st of January. During the Middle Ages under the influence of the Christian Church, many countries moved the start of the year to one of several important Christian festivals - December 25 (the Nativity of Jesus), March 1, March 25 (the Annunciation), or even Easter. - Was discussing this with my friends as we counted down to New Years (Via Wikipedia)

- Arnold Schwarzenegger was the first civilian to buy a Hummer. (Via OMG Facts)
- Pepperoni is a spicy Italian-American variety of salami (a dry sausage) usually made from cured pork and beef - This confusion arose when we found this listed in the menu of a vegetarian Italian Restaurant. Turns out the Indian version is probably just chicken, in that restaurant it probably was Tofu; I will never know
