J'adore Batman

So I AM LEGEND set a new record for the highest-grossing December opening (at $76.5 million). Anyone else surprised?

Any one else wondering how many audience members bought a ticket just to see the TDK trailer and prologue (in Imax)?

Because after viewing the online trailer, I am tempted to go out and purchase a movie ticket myself. First and foremost, just the domain name for the online trailer (www.atasteforthetheatrical.com) makes me giggle. Not to mention the graphic design: "Room for 8 people. 28 if they're dismembered." C'mon, that's just classic. And the trailer's looking absolutely wonderful. There's only one problem with this film. BATMAN BEGINS was interesting because, for once, someone created a film about the titular character. Everyone else took a backseat. We already know that this film's not going to be about Batman. Look at how much screentime the Joker gets just in the trailer! (Not that I'm complaining. As well all know, he's my favorite comic book character of all time.)

Heath Ledger appears to be strung-out on the world's best hallucinogenic. Despite the fact that I'm a traditionalist, I think that the character design works for him. The character was supposed to be inspired by Moore/Bolland. Anyone else seeing Morrison/McKean instead? Although I'll acknowledge the fact that the Joker has to be completely psychotic (especially on film), I'm sort of preferring the cuddly and adorable comic book version nowadays (see: Robin #85). He kills you with the cute. No really, he does.

And I continue to be completely in love with Maggie Gyllenhaal. Who looks gorgeous even while holding her own against a homicidal psychopath.

Best line ever:

J: You got a little fight in you. I like that.
B: Then you're gonna love me.

He does, he does! Thanks for at least giving me something to hold onto, guys. We need to keep the canonical homoeroticism alive somehow.

(Back to finishing my senior thesis. On Batman.)
