Rainy Day

It was a icky rainy day here today, and I decided to spend the day inside with the critters.

After watching some TV (well it was on while I was washing dishes, and reading and cuddling with the cat & dog, and doing laundry) I decided to take some new information that my dad learned from a relative and add it to my family tree I've been building.

The surprise was on me though, because apparently I lost all my family tree information. I had to start building it from scratch again. I made some good progress, but I'm kicking myself for not having a back-up somewhere.

Also 'my' family tree is very extensive because I've been extending it to include my nephew's extended family. Through facebook, and phone calls, I've come to be on fairly friendly terms with his mother's side the of the family. Not his mom, but her sister's, her mom and her grandmother & father.

I'm using ancestry.ca to help build the tree and do some research, and I came across a marriage register for my great grandfather. Apparently, at age 17, my great grandmother was listed as a spinster. Her options were spinster, widow or divorced. I was chuckling about this with my father and he launches into the historic use of the term spinster and that in 1920 it was a single lady. Still... a 17 year old spinster? My mind finds this very funny.
