is it alright for them to make racist jokes as long as they make fun of their own race?

so let me get this straight.
1.you've assumed that not only will people not contact any of the people I just listed, but also that even if they do, it will be pointless and unheard.

2.you've also assumed that no other groups "cry" about racist jokes geared towards them.

3.there's an assumption that this is just about the use of the words ching and chong.

1. i agree. one person will not make that much of a difference. power comes in numbers and mock my efforts however much you want, but don't blame a guy for trying to rally in something he believes is wrong.

2. honestly, how many mexican and black people do you know? how do you know that there aren't grassroot efforts out there complaining about racist jokes on the radio?

3. It's not just about them saying "ching" and "chong". This program is mocking the Asian Excellence Awards. Does it not bother you that they are making fun of asian actors / actresses / filmmakers / producers who have worked so damn hard to get to where they are today? The reason why they have to work so much harder than others is because they're Asian! yet it's okay to mock this plight? It's about Asian accomplishments being ridiculed more than the word "ching" and "chong"; sorry if i didn't make that clear enough from the get-go.

1. let's see results before you start preaching.
2. i've gotten to know a few this year actually, and a lot of them tell these jokes, or laugh when i bring one up.
3. no, i am not very bothered by the fact that they are making fun of asian actors/actresses/filmmakers.

P.S. there is no reason to take up this cause just because you saw it or heard about it from the angry asian man first.

P.P.S. this will be my final comment on the matter because i find that i probably can't talk any sense into you either way. the only reason i keep commenting is because you keep posing questions at me. how about you make a statement instead of asking these meaningless questions? you can go ahead and have the final word if you want to be the "big man" in this argument. i was merely trying to point out the fact that this event is not really relevant in the big picture, and that it does not really call for you to bring more attention towards the matter.

lighten up.

you'll live longer.

i can't decide what irritates me more-- corolla's joke, or your indifference. actually, it goes beyond indifference. why are you dissuading him from doing what he feels compelled to do?

maybe he could live longer if he stopped stressing about things like this, but what's the point if you don't have an identity or a set of values that you'll fight for? if you don't stand for anything, you'll fall for anything. he might not live as long, but are you even living? or is asian am just not your arena?

either way. i'm writing a letter within the next week.

I've been trying to sit out on this, but I can't! Most of those "questions" Scott asks are rhetorical. It's called a "writing style", you ape!

And as I've been keeping track of this discussion between you two, I've been hoping you wouldn't bail out and pull a move like "This argument isn't worth my time -- You're stupid for being so difficult!" But there it goes, and frankly I'm a little disappointed. I find it pretty arrogant that you think you can "talk some sense" into anyone with this nonsense. Who died and made you lord of racial relations? Anyway, thank you for the "facts" on what is relevant today. (If you need to learn more about writing styles, this is called sarcasm)

i know the posted note was your final comment, but anyhow.

if you didnt agree with scott, that's perfectly fine. That was HIS livejournal, and HIS SPACE to express what is entitled to HIS opinion and his believe. Therefore, why did you even bother to comment anyways? Take it or leave it.

Secondly, so what if he did hear or saw it from the angry asian man first, because of that he cant comment on it? Wow, so next time if you ever so decide to write about an issue that you've heard from the news, or whatnot, dont bother, because "there is no reason to take up the cause because you saw it or heard it" from someone else.

And i hope you'll soon encounter some serious discrimination, and when you do, dont bother writing about it either, because according to you, no one cares about issues like that. And may God bless your naive soul and ignorance will keep you away from the brutal reality of this world.
