I dropped my mom off at the airport an hour or so ago. I dont even remember the last time my mom went on a vacation by herself for this long a time. 10 days in China, I hope she enjoys it. =)
Funny thing is how she got the money for the plane ticket. Years...YEARS ago, she asked me if I would ever buy her a ticket to China because she wished to visit family and old friends. Being the young child I was, I said my money was her money, and that she could count on me for plane ticket money. Of course at this time, I also promised I would buy her a mansion with an indoor swimming pool when I was older. I think you can gather how old I was when I said this. But anyways, a few months ago she asked me for money to fly to China. That caught me way off guard. In the midst of saving for a psp and all the utility bills I'll have to pay this year, my mom was asking me to forfeit those. I'm not going to lie, I didn't really like the idea at first, because I had been saving the money for a while. I thought about it though, and the thing is, my mom has done and sacrificed so much for me. plus i DID make a promise.
It'll be a vacation for her from the monotonous drudgery of home. Of all people she deserves it.

A thought I had while driving back was about CARPOOL LANES. 2 or more people qualifies a car for the carpool lane. Simple? Hardly. I always thought the point of the carpool lane was to save money on gas, lower traffic, and lower the emissions given off by cars. You carpool with people at work, people at school, or wherever. The main point is that the people in the car could be driving their OWN, cars but instead of that they are hitching a ride off a friend.
but to my disbelief, that's not how many people think of it. Having driven around a lot this summer, I notice people in the carpool lanes with just one kid. Assuming that this child is the drivers, how is that a carpool at all? You're not saving gas, lowering traffic, or lowering emissions. I've asked my mom why she does it, and she usually replies, "It's alright because everyone else does it."
I think the only reason I'm even writing about this is because I'm not really sure when it's right to use the carpool lane anymore. As I was driving back from the airport today, I saw many people with just a kid in their cars, turning into the carpool lane and blazing ahead of all the traffic I got stuck in. If my brother were in the car, would it be alright for me to go in that lane? I want to stick by what I originally thought the carpool lane was made for, but I also want to get to my destinations faster. Conformity..to fcuk or not to fcuk.
