I am glad I dropped out of college at a young age and am just now going back. It has given me an appreciation for education. I am in a core class with several air headed 18 year olds who think college is another cool place to party and meet people. Yes it is that but there is also that whole learning thing that they don’t seem to be real interested in. I was shocked at how many students came to class yesterday without having read the chapter on Lao-Tzu. On the syllabus given Tuesday Lao-Tzu was written in for Thursday so I assumed (correctly) that the professor wanted us to come to class ready to discuss.

I actually heard several kids ask those of us who had read it what it was about. Like we could give them a quick run down on a man who is very philosophical which in itself can lead to multiple interpretations. Personally I got a headache trying to figure out what this dead dude was trying to say but I still trudged along trying.

The insult to my already annoyed mind was the fact that the two little girls sitting behind me felt the need to talk and gossip the entire fucking class. Occasionally the little one sitting directly behind me would tap my shoulder and ask what was going on. I myself could barely hear because of their juvenile chit chat.

I am not sure how the professor stood it. I would have asked them to stand up and tell the class what they found interesting about the person we were discussing in class. It was obvious they had to have found something note worthy to have taken up so much time talking amongst themselves. It will be interesting Tuesday to see what they have to say about Machiavelli.
