Monday usually sucks because it's the start of another week (7 weeks left for the semester, scary!) and the annoying orchestra rehearsal. I'd never say an orchestra rehearsal is "annoying" back in my undergrad years. Anyways, today's orchestra rehearsal was actually fun. I felt like a kid again, because we're reading a piece with all Alan Menken's famous songs, such as A Whole New World, Kiss the Girl, Under the Sea, Beauty and the Beast, etc.
(for those who don't know who he is, well I don't know who is Alan Menken either until today's rehearsal; he is the composer who composed music for Disney's Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and tones of other music. He won 7 academy awards and he is one of the donars who will donate $2.5 billion to the NYU music department next Wednesday (more on this later))
I actually felt cheerful and happy after today's rehearsal, and I was humming 'A Whole New World' all the way to my next class.
Coming up: Last weekend: Rain in NYC, Zhang Yimou's Raise of the Red Lantern ballet, violin goddness Midori playing Prokofiev 1 and hunchback Marvin Alsop conducting the NYPhil.
