Amid the boxes

Here it is Wednesday, my third official morning as a New Yorker. :-} And the cable Internet guy came today, so we now have a happy little wireless router blinking away on top of the big bookshelf in the corner.

Unpacking is proceeding apace. We have basically squished all the boxes into the office and the front entryway, so that we have the use of the big airy living room space to gradually set things up into. (The corner nearest the galley kitchen, we walled off with bookcases to create a pantry area, which I personally think was a stroke of genius, because no way was all that stuff fitting in here any other way!) ablock asked for pictures, but I think it's going to be another week or so before it's anything to show off.

It's tedious work, the finding of new homes for everything, especially when there isn't *quite* enough room for everything to just spread out. But it *is* fun, at the same time. And it's incredibly novel for me NOT to have anything else I must do but putter around and deal with housey things and maybe run out to the grocery store or, just for kicks, the hardware store, and make some food every few hours.

The other incredibly novel thing for me is to be making a shared home with and for justom, about which I will say little except to marvel at the depth of contentment and peace in my heart, of a kind I could barely imagine a year or even six months ago. Everyone knows that the Hebrew word for peace is shalom, but not everyone knows that it comes from the root word shalem, meaning wholeness, or fullness. It's like that. Oh yes. Even amid the piles of boxes and the not-yet-employment* (which ought to be causing me some anxiety about money but really isn't, at least for another month or so) and the constant street noise and vibration making my body hum at all hours of the day and night... there is peace.

*On which note: I had a job interview yesterday (at a certain Reform Jewish day school on the UWS), which was most excellent, and they plan to have me back in the next week or two for a half-day visit to meet the rest of the team. Yay! Wish me luck!

Also, I'm going to have to come up to Boston sometime in the next ~5 days to hand off my car to its buyer. I won't make it to the End-of-Summer Party (lunch plans with jessruth!), but am hoping to time things so as to get to see theatreatfirst's As You Like It. :-} I'll try to keep you all apprised.

moving, nyc, joy
