  • Yesterday evening was my Yoga class. I must have spent nearly 30 of 90 minutes with my inner thighs ripped apart. Jo didn't want me doing camel or shoulderstand, so I was always instructed to do baddha konasana (upright or supine) or an upright version of upavista konasana. Oy, another month of doing that, and my knees will be clear down to the floor in baddha konasana. She's going to be gone next week, but the week after that, she'll show me more poses she'd like me to use as substitutions so that I don't get bored with endless cobblers.

  • I found out my exam schedule. The U.S. Lit midterm is actually not for another 2 weeks; rather, a short paper is what's due Tuesday in 6 days. I also have a Law & Language midterm on Tuesday. I spent several hours yesterday reading court cases about frozen, eviscerated chicken. Fun fun fun!

  • After having been a hermit for a few weeks, I finally have plenty of social plans for the coming week. DH & I are going up to Temecula for a Superbowl party Sunday, I'm meeting Jo (a local from an online check-in) Saturday, and Francesca & Mike wanted to get together for dinner Thursday evening. About 10 minutes later, I realized I have a Law & Language midterm review Thursday evening, so we'll have to reschedule.

  • The knitted Spanish Red tote bag is less than 2 hours from completion (by my tortoise time frame, anyhow). It will be the first 100% completed project (afghan squares don't count).

  • Day 11 (of 30) of escrow. Kristen, our agent, says we're more than halfway there with everything we need to do from our end. Things were going so smoothly until a couple days ago. The inspector's report finally arrived Monday night (4 days late). As for the bank, I thought the spelling error on the bank paperwork ("Suzanna") and the incorrect down payment percentage were the only glitches, but now Jim, the mortgage broker, called yesterday evening to ask DH about a couple late payments on my amazon.com store account last spring. It was a return misunderstanding. They sent me two copies of the same Sociology book (and charged me for both); I returned one, so I incorrectly assumed that over a month later, the credit would be applied. So for 2 months, I thought I had a $0 balance, meanwhile I got slammed with late fees. Oof. My fault; I should have looked at the statements. I asked Jim what he thought this could mean for our loan. After all, we've been "pre-approved" (not merely "pre-qualified") for over a month. As a native English speaker, I assumed that meant something along the lines of "approved in advance," but I don't speak Brokerese. Jim says he isn't sure, but that his guess is it's not big enough to impact our loan going through as planned. He also confirmed the worst case scenario: the loan will go in DH's name only, and I'll be added to the title after escrow ends. Neither of us wish to do that, of course; I just hope it's not our only option.
