This week was packed full of live music.
Sunday, Pierre and I went to go see Acid Mothers Temple. I really don't want to exaggerate, but this was easily one of the most satisfying and awesome performances I have seen. My ears rang for two days after, and the energy of the guys was completely inspiring and genuine. There was no schmaltz or pretense in this performance. Just rocking (psyching?) out, and it was totally transcendent. Loud and satisfying. I pretty much never leave a concert "satisfied"; I hardly know what this means anymore. In any case, AMT hit the spot.
Then we saw Japanther & Matt&Kim, and DD/MM/YY. It was good. Not the best, but good & fun.
Then Daniel Johnston, which was pretty good I thought... Kind of sad, but... I'm glad I got to see him. The Ottawa audience was at its most annoying though... Weird drunken yelling out of things like "Otttawa!!!: (yeah, coool. Keep cheering your fucking city... ) and "Rock us, Daniel!"... Uhhhhh. I dunno. And cheering and woo-ing when he sings about being suicidally depressed. Uhhh. Yeah. My complaining about it is entirely in vain.
Tonight we went to see Pierre's friend Zach play with his band, and Casiotone yadda yadda, and Nick Krgovich from P:Ano... Instead of playing originals, Nick played the entire Sade album "Lovers Rock" (minus the Immigrant song) and it was really great. WOW. I downloaded the album (the Sade one) afterwards. It was a nice performance.
Oh, and finally, I also watched "In the Mood for Love" by Wong Kar-Wai today. I love movies where the art direction is so central to everything the movie is about. Loved the colours, the "lovers" theme that repeated, and the ending. Nice touches.
Also, the Fleetwood Mac album "Tusk" is totally speaking to me RIGHT NOW. I love Lindsay Buckingham. Well, I shouldn't say love, because I "LOVE" Springsteen.... I just like Lindsay Buckingham a lot. When he's on, he's really on.
Here is my to-do list for next week:
-APPLY FOR JOBS
-WATCH THE FOLLOWING MOVIES (because i have copies of them and need to mail them back to the owner stat):
. Style Wars
. The Dreamers (finally gonna sit through it... supposed to be terrible; but I hate Bertolucci anyway, so it all works out.)
. Burden of Dreams
. Videodrome
. Days of Heaven
. Solaris
. Where the Buffalo Roam
So... I'm done school. For now, for ever. It's great to be done, to know I finished all the things I needed to finish. But truly, I don't feel at all like celebrating. It was really sad to leave that Saturday I packed all my stuff up. I was pretty despondent that whole day, and I'm still trying to forget how bizarrely unsettling it felt saying bye to everyone.
