home again, home again ... again ...

We got back on Sunday, yesterday was kidlets' doctor appointments (checkups and flu shots, plus Hep A for Kidzilla), tomorrow is dental appointments for me and the kidlets all together. Thank goodness things are a little bit slow at work for K right now, so he can come and wrangle.

I don't know WHAT the dentist scheduler was thinking trying to schedule a 3 year old for an appointment at the SAME time as his mother, so that the mother won't be able to do the wrangling. WTF? When I made the appointments I was under the impression that they would be consecutive, it's not like they'll be doing much with Baby G, just having a quick look at her cleft and the way the teeth are coming in is all, she doesn't need an entire half hour appointment for that, for **** sake. In fact, I was under the impression that hers wouldn't be a separate appointment at all, they'd just have a quick look while I held her before going on to my cleaning and all.

But no, when they call to confirm this morning they ask, is someone coming with you? because the appointments are all at the same time. I'm like ... WHAT??

Arg. But anyway.

Kidzilla and Baby G were playing, he was flinging his kitty at things to make satisfying noises, laughing like a maniac monkey, and she was watching, clapping her hands, and laughing softly, delightedly. I'm trying hard to get out of the micromanaging habit now that we're home and the only things he can destroy are our own, so I determinedly sat here working on things and *NOT* watching what he was doing. (mantra: repeat after me: it's all fine ... it's all fine ... it's all fine ...)

Well, until she started crying anyway, and like mothers the world over I immediately assumed he'd done something, but as it turned out she just had a roaringly crazy messy diaper.

I picked her up, carefully patted her back (to avoid squishing poop up out of the back of her diaper), and she immediately calmed and started gently patting my back in return. I LOVE that. It's so ... so ... mama moment. I remember when Kidzilla did that for the first time, patting my back while I was holding him over my shoulder, like I patted his. Baby G started doing it a week or so ago, maybe just slightly more. I love it.
