Who: Tsuna, Reborn, another Sea King
What: An actual emergency, for once. Also a Sea King attacks.
When: The next day, after Reborn's strike-through post
Where: Top deck of the Vongola Ship (where there never seem to be any other people!)
It was true that he hadn't been sleeping enough these past two days (and he was trying), but it was mainly because he couldn't. There were too many things going on. He was an expert at grabbing what sleep he could in strange places; much to Tsuna's annoyance, as when he'd fall asleep in the middle of a conversation (always genuine, albeit convenient) to avoid answering his questions about things he didn't need to know about anyway. His body had apparently decided that it simply couldn't manage on the amount of sleep he was used to anymore. Which was why he had taken to compulsively drinking coffee. He wasn't sleep deprived, dammit; wasn't ten hours a day enough for anybody? Granted, he hadn't gotten it over the weekend, but he'd gone without for periods of time far longer than this, to absolutely no effect...
He'd managed to drift off, finally, in Tsuna's bed; and how nostalgic was that? It had been a while. But his senses, annoyingly alert to absolutely no degree of usefulness, would not let him get his rest; but neither would they tell him what the problem was so he could take care of it... And by the time he felt the boat rock alarmingly in the wake of a large wave, enough to send him stumbling out of the bed, just managing to catch himself against the wall, it was practically too late. Again, he curses that fact that he didn't have Leon. Which meant Tsuna, already tired and injured from yesterday, would have to take care of it this time as well...
Tsuna waved goodbye to Gokudera as he left the storm guardian's bedroom. Gokudera has insisted he borrow one of his own shirts, and in an attempt to keep the silver haired teen from literally giving him the shirt off his back Tsuna offered they look through Gokudera's spares. The shirt was too big for him and hung pathetically off his small frame, the neck wide enough to expose some of his bony shoulder. It would have to do until he could get back into his room.
The ground was shaken beneath him and Tsuna collided head first with the floor. "IS THIS SHIP CURSED OR SOMETHING?!" He shrieked as he got to his knees. On shaky legs he tore down the hallway in the direction of his room all the while thinking 'Pleasebeawakepleasebeawake'.
In the space of a few moments, Reborn had managed to get completely dressed, and looked more or less perfectly composed as he walks down the hallway to Gokudera's room (which was surely where Tsuna would be), when he heard him screaming something incoherent. Well, how nice, that would save him a lot of trouble. He'd plucked up the headset from its place on Tsuna's bedside table, but couldn't find either the Dying Will pills from Basil or his 27 mittens, which, surprisingly enough, gave him hope; at least it meant Tsuna had gotten into the habit of being prepared for anything, even while he was sleeping. He grabbed Tsuna by the too-loose collar of his borrowed shirt, "We need to get up top, Tsuna," with a surprising amount of urgency in his voice, no teasing at all.
Yes, the hitman was awake and wait..."On top?! What's going on Reborn?" He tried to wiggle free of Reborn's hold and struggling to keep pace with him. 'Oh no, it better not be another monster!' He thought nervously.
"Something is attacking the ship," he said not looking at Tsuna, striding ahead, still pulling him, though his hand slides down Tsuna's arm to grab his wrist (so carefully), running up the stairs to the topmost area of the ship, out in the open air, where, sure enough, another Sea King - a much more intimidating specimen this time: a long, narrow body, greenish blue, with sharp fangs, orange wing-fins with which it was stirring up the water to point of shaking the entire ship.
Tsuna cursed under his breath. "Where do they keep coming from!?" He shrieked, using his free hand to extract his gloves and pills from his pockets.
Reborn had a hard time keeping the concern off his face, trying to project his usual aura of indifference and only just succeeding. "There are a lot of them here on this ocean," he said quietly, watching Tsuna prepare himself. "They're often attracted by ships, or by people on beaches..." He shrugged. "Maybe this one was attracted by the one you fought yesterday."
"Why can't they just leave us alone" He whined and frowned at the threatening form of the beast.
Tsuna slipped one woolen mitten on and then froze, looking up at the indifferent face of his tutor, "Do you want me to fight it with only one hand!?" He said, twisting his wrist in an attempt to free it from the taller man's grasp.
He'd actually completely forgotten, but he remarked, "That might be something we have to try in the future," and let Tsuna go with only the slightest hint of reluctance.
He cringed at the idea, but hurriedly slipped the other glove on as well as his contacts. 'Why am I always the only person on deck!?' he thought as he swallowed a dying will pill. His honey eyes shut as the orange sky flame formed and when they opened they were lidded and glowing with the same intensity of the fire on his head.
Reborn wordlessly handed the headset over to Tsuna. "Be careful, Tsuna," he said, bracing himself against the railing, though it looked as though he were only shifting position to have a better view.
Tsuna nodded to the sharp man and covered his ears with the furry headpiece. He crouched low to the deck, flames from his gloves rocketing him at the teal sea creature. He aimed a sharp kick at the base of one of its orange fins.
This sea king was immediately more aggressive than the one they had faced the day before, and more maneuverable - it almost seemed graceful as it twisted out of Tsuna's way, but it avoided the ship, focusing on Tsuna instead, rising further out of the water to meet his attack.
He somersaulted in mid air, turning to face the lengthy form of the beast. He straightened both legs and shot the flames over his head, shooting his entire body, feet first, like an arrow at its lithe form, just below it's jaw.
The Sea King screeched as Tsuna made contact at that high speed, thrashing about in pain, striking out blindly.
"Tsuna, pull back," Reborn said immediately over the headset. "Try coming at it from the top instead."
Tsuna kicked off the point of contact, flipping and flying back and above the Sea King. Tsuna wasn't sure just how long this one was, but decided it was best to put a lot of distance between himself the infuriated animal. He hovered above it, planning to fire an X-Burner directly below him, forcing the creature deep into the turbulent sea.
The Sea King was rather long; its body actually extended very deep into the ocean, and the other end of its tail could easily wrap itself around the ship...
Tsuna narrowed his eyes and checking his alignment with the custom contacts, shot a beam of concentrated flame at the crown of the monster's head. He only used about thirty percent of his power, but the flames roared and licked at the air as they shot below him.
The flames hit the Sea King's head straight on, and it screamed again, ducking under the water hoping for it to ease its pain, the coils of it undulating in the water around it, showing off its length.
"Tsuna, it's going to come for the ship next..." Reborn said through the headset.
"What?" Tsuna hissed at the voice in his ear. If he were to shoot at it from it's current position he could hit the ship. He gritted his teeth and shot the flame behind him, diving into the frothing sea. He raced to the water, holding his breath before he broke the surface and almost letting the air out in a gasp of awe at the Sea King.
"It's frightened of the flame, you can l..." Reborn continued, and then the entire ship rocked violently, knocking him off balance, and, tired as he was, that seemed to be the moment he lost it entirely, and collapsed in a heap on the deck, unconscious.
The Sea King poked its head back out of the water, surveying the ship, curiously, hungrily... Its tail had knocked against something delicious, it seemed...
Tsuna emerged from the waves, aiming an uppercut at the underbelly of the lengthy creature.
With all its coils exposed, the Sea King could not move away quickly enough to avoid Tsuna's blow, but with its tail so close to the ship, it simply knocked into it again, shaking the entire vessel...
"And I can what, Reborn?" Tsuna said, voice still as he turned to look at the deck and..."Reborn!" Tsuna yelled, eyes widening in concern, but as he turned back to the Sea King, they narrowed dangerously. "Let go!" He growled as he shot another burst of flame at the coils of beast that were just above the water's surface.
This flame was even hotter, and surprisingly enough, penetrated deeply enough into the water to hurt the creature, which hurried uncoils itself from around the ship to draw itself up to its full length... It stretched its head up to meet Tsuna's altitude...
Both of Tsuna's flames were stable and as his anger built, so too did the temperature of his charging glove. "X'"s marked the pupils of his glowing eyes and flames of up to 150 thousand FV shot at the creatures face.
This blast hit the creature straight on, and it screamed in pain again, knocked back by the force, to the point where it falls backwards into the water, and starts to swim away, though it kept looking back...
Tsuna's right hand was engulfed in flame once more, but instead of firing at the retreating creature, the flames spread around the weilder, sheilding him from view. Deciding the monster was far enough, he turned off his soft flame and lowered onto the deck of the ship. His eyes softened as he struck solid ground and the smoldering gloves appeared woolen once more. "Reborn! Hey, did you see...that...I......Reborn?" He knelt down next to his teacher and reached out a reluctant hand to lightly nudge the fallen man.
Reborn didn't answer; in a way, despite the worry in his expression, he actually looked much calmer than his usual imperturbable expression might seem to indicate.
"Uhh.....uhhhh...." Tsuna shifted his head, looking around the deck. He pocketed his gloves and slung one of Reborn's arms over his shoulder. Hauling the man up by an arm and a belt loop. 'And of course there's no one around to help.' He thought, sighing to himself. He dragged carried Reborn back to his room for some rest.
'Why was he in full suit when he should have been sleeping?' Tsuna wondered as he took the shoes and coat off of his tutor and with a lot of effort, as not to wake the man, set him under the covers of the bed. He pulled up a chair next to the nightstand and set his earpieces and gloves on it. "He's actually kind of handsome when he's resting." Tsuna sighed. He shook his head for a brief moment, "Wait, what?"
