Harry Potter Fanfiction Recs
Some of the best Harry Potter fanfics I've been reading this summer:
The Elite by Adari (Rated Teen. Gen. Complete.)
A hilarious execution of the "Harry and Draco become Aurors" plotline. Because I can't believe they would just become friends.
Delenda Est by Lord Silvere (Rated Teen. Gen, eventual het. WiP.)
A twist on "Harry goes back in time and meets a young Bellatrix". For one thing, what Harry teaches at Hogwarts definitely isn't DADA. Snape would choke on outrage.
The Very Secret Diary by Arabella (Rated Teen. Gen. Complete.)
Every conversation Ginny Weasley and Tom Riddle ever had on the pages of the latter's Horcux-diary. What makes this story an enthralling read is the fact that both of them are 100% in character. It's so well-written, well-characterized, and subtle that I bet you'll appreciate it even if you aren't fascinated by their creepy relationship dynamic like I am.
A Snake Named Voldemort by estalita11 (Rated Mature. Eventual slash. Complete.)
Dumbledore and Snape concocted a rather Slytherin plan to defeat Voldemort that turned him into a snake, unable to turn back. They didn't count on the only other living parselmouth, Harry Potter, feeling sorry for the snake. Sorry enough to act on it, like the heroic Gryffindor that he is. (One of the most delightfully dramatic fics out there, and surprisingly in character given the plotline.)
The Portrait by DariaSilver (Rated Mature. Eventual slash. WiP.)
When Voldemort dies, he leaves a magical portrait of himself and his younger self as inheritance to his reluctant financial heir, Harry. The two (three?) enemies get to know each other in a non-clichéd way.
Wand Cores by Lydia-kitten (Rated Mature. Slash. WiP.)
In which Tom Riddle is not a "born evil" psychopath but a "fixable" one who experienced horrific trauma in his childhood. Harry goes back in time and tries to save Tom from himself - and convinces Dumbledore to give Grindelwald a second chance while he's at it.
