I love this time of year. The weather warms up and people start putting out their wares hoping someone will stop and buy their junk. I didn't use to like yard sales, but recently I have noticed that it's not that bad. It's almost a social thing. I get out in the pretty weather. Talk to lots of different people and maybe score some deals on items I never knew I wanted (or needed) until I saw them displayed in some random person's yard.
One hint for anyone deciding to hit the yard sells; If you take your parents prepare for a long morning. I tend to look quickly and make up my mind if I am going to purchase or not. This tactic is so not happening with my parents along. They use yard sales as a means to do some hard-core socializing. They mingle with friends (or strangers...they are so not picky) and chat about whatever is happening that day be it the weather, local news and/or gossip....basically whatever. Then on the way to the next sale, I get to hear a rehash of their morning. (I felt like saying "I know, I was there.") But, being the good daughter I am, I listen and nod my head and offer to take them to breakfast instead.
Both are retired and I believe going a bit stir crazy. When I get to be their age, I will probably want to socialize at random yard sales too. Least I can do is spend a little time with them while they get out and have fun.
