(Background:
giddysinger and I live in an apartment that, like many, has one big room comprising the dining alcove and the living room. Two large windows are located at either end of this room, one in the dining alcove and one in the living room. In previous years, I've put the three-foot-tall December tree up on a counter under the window in the dining room, so that it can be seen when one looks at the dining room window and we've got the blinds open. There is another little table in the dining room besides the one we eat on that is waiting until we clear space in another room to put it. There is also a pair of tables under the living room window as well. We are also embarking on a cleaning frenzy this weekend in advance of guests this upcoming weekend and in the interests of my general mental state.)
Me: You know, we could put up the holiday decorations when we go attack the other room, too. That would get them out of that room so we could clean it. Course, I'd have to clean off the dining room counter to do that...maybe we should move it to the other little table?
giddysinger: But then Santa won't see it to bring us presents!
Me: (blinks) Okay. What if we put it in the living room on those two end tables?
giddysinger: ...
Me: I'm sure Santa can see the living room window just as easily.
giddysinger: That...might be okay then.
And so it is decided. (I doubt we'll have them up before
blueeyedgriffn & her partner come to see us next weekend, but this does mean it is likely that the sparkly holiday decor will come out a little earlier than usual.)
Once said cleaning frenzy is done, I am likely to be trying to get everyone to whom we owe hospitality through here and fed while the place is clean enough that I don't want to go crawl under a rock at the idea of having people over and seeing it. Hopefully that will be soon; I spent part of this weekend catching up with old friends (like
moosegirl1017) and realized I've lost touch with far more folks than I'd like to admit to, so dangit I'm going to try and fix that with the holiday season approaching.
