Their natural colour is the bright green of the leaves seen at top. (Japanese maples change colour in late autumn, much later than North American maples - usually in the latter half of November, or even December.)
I took this photo in a Japanese garden in Seattle, but of course the trees are just as lovely back home in Japan ;-) It's their graceful shape that draws me to them, as much as their autumn colour.
SO pretty. I do appreciate fall for the sense of cycles progressing, the death and rebirth thing. Not so excited about the cold and dark season, though.
